As UA's Electronics Technician, you will be responsible for performing a wide variety of complex technical tasks to assist engineers with development, test, and sustaining operations. To qualify for this position, you must have extensive experience debugging failures of digital, analog and power supply circuit card assemblies at the component level. Assignments are typically of the non-repetitive R&D nature and complexity requiring considerable judgment and initiative in resolving problems and making recommendations. You will prioritize your time by serving the most critical area of need as defined by the Electrical Design Manager.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities. Other duties may be assigned.
Electrical Engineering design development assistance responsibilities include:
- Assisting in the design, development, construction, and laboratory testing of developmental hardware assemblies.
- Troubleshooting failures of complex multi-card electrical hardware assemblies.
- Perform environmental EMI/EMC, Design Verification, and acceptance testing.
- Designing and building cable assemblies and test fixtures to support engineering integration and test.
- Create simple schematics and circuit card layouts to support test fixture development.
Test Engineering assistance responsibilities include:
- Using basic engineering principles, develops or directs the setup of test equipment and the appropriate testing on developmental hardware assemblies.
- Executing test plans to perform formal DO-160 qualification tests.
- Troubleshooting and determining root cause of hardware DO-160 failures resulting from temperature, vibration, or EMI related testing.
- Troubleshooting failures of qualification and acceptance test equipment.
- Building and debugging cable assemblies and test fixtures to support formal qualification testing.
Sustaining Engineering assistance responsibilities include:
- Performing testing per Engineering guidance to evaluate potential solutions for legacy product failure investigations.
- Assisting in the debug and troubleshooting activities of product failure investigations.
- Performing confidence testing to establish confidence in the performance of alternative parts or design solutions.
General duties of the Electronics Technician Associate include:
- Management of the inventory and calibration requirements of lab equipment.
- Performing all required PCB rework, in accordance with IPC standards, in the absence of the prototype assembler technician.
- Reading schematics and following complicated work instructions.
- Using oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, and various lab equipment.
- Debug and troubleshoot complex circuits and electrical systems.
- Soldering fine pitch surface mount PCB components.
- Building complex cable assemblies.
- Executing hardware test procedures.
- Analyzing and summarizing results.
Required Qualifications:
- High School diploma or general education degree.
- Minimum of 10 years of related work experience/knowledge.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Technical or college degree, AS in Electronics Technology, BS preferred.
- IPC J-STD-001 7711/22 Workmanship certified; IPC610/620 Inspection certified.
- Experience with RTCA/DO-160 EMI/EMC and Environmental Testing for Airborne Equipment.
- Experience with ESS, HASS, HALT testing.
- Experience with using OrCad or Mentor Graphics xDX schematic capture tools.
- Capable of analyzing and summarizing test results to create engineering test reports.
- Strong consideration will be given for background involving avionics specific test experience and experimental aircraft operations activities.
- Competency:
- Hands-on troubleshooting and diagnostic abilities.
- Hands on lab experience with oscilloscopes, power supplies, soldering stations.
- Must have strong problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Must have excellent verbal/written communication skills.
- Must be flexible and capable of handling multi-task operations.
- Must understand how to read schematic diagrams of electronic circuits.
Language Ability:
Fluency in English is required.Ability to write professional correspondence and effectively communicate information to other employees in English. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to apply and understanding of mathematics (algebra, geometry, trigonometry).
Reasoning Ability:
- Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to assimilate information from diverse sources to form a complete situational picture and develop a plan of action to accomplish a task.
- Ability to use process of elimination when diagnosing problems.
Computer Skills:
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and CAD tools.
