POSITION SUMMARY

Employment Specialist is key in helping AchieveAbilities clients to find appropriate work that matches their strengths and employment goals. As an Employment Specialist, you will provide job development for DVR (Division of Vocational Rehabilitation) clients, including searching for positions that are good matches, applying for jobs, help with onboarding of clients in their new jobs, and other tasks, as requested. As an Employment Specialist, you will also be required to conduct on-site job coaching/skills instruction for clients to help them learn and be successful in employment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Complete client profiles for new clients
  • Complete DVR Reports for new clients, registration with the Job Center, develop resumes, cover letters, and reference lists
  • Assist clients with mock interviews
  • Conduct job searches, complete on-line applications, and submit resumes and cover letters
  • Maintain and submit information on client and employer contacts, status, and next steps
  • Meet with clients on a weekly basis for job development
  • Stay in communication with clients offering support once they start a new job or internship
  • Identify job duties and create step-by-step breakdown of job tasks/duties – aligning the person’s learning style with the training method
  • On the job-site – provide support in completing tasks, including modeling appropriate behaviors as needed
  • Identify areas for improvement and address accordingly
  • Provide client transportation as needed
  • Maintain and submit timely coaching reports
  • Support learning, growth, and independence
  • Provide follow along retention services for 90 days after finding client work to help the client be successful
  • Communicate problems and create action plans to resolve any issues
  • Keep supervisor, DVR Counselors, and other team members informed
  • Provide encouragement, hope, and support for clients
  • Instill feelings of confidence in the client and their abilities to meet the job requirements
  • Provide ongoing support to clients, team members, and supervisors
  • Attend staff, team, and client meetings

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent (example: HSED, GED) and three years' documented experience in a professional or personal setting routinely working with people with disabilities. Or
  • A bachelor's degree in rehabilitation, business, marketing, or related human services; and one year's documented experience in a professional or personal setting routinely working with people with disabilities.
  • Valid driver’s license, access to reliable automobile, proof of insurance and good driving record,
  • Advanced computer skills and cell phone,
  • Knowledge of disabilities and ability to deal with challenging behaviors and identifying jobs which may be an appropriate match,
  • Patience and kindness, flexibility, excellent verbal and written communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associates Degree or higher, preferably in rehabilitation, business, marketing, or related human services,
  • Two years' documented experience in a professional or personal setting routinely working with people with disabilities,
  • Some related adult education
  • Bilingual English/Spanish

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $16.00 - $19.00 per hour
