Position Description
Advertised Job Summary
The Department of English at the University of South Carolina, Columbia campus, invites applications for a full time, professional-track faculty position at the rank of Instructor to teach in its First-Year English Program. The position begins August 16, 2023. It is a 9-month appointment with a teaching load of 8 courses for the academic year. This is an annual appointment that may be renewed contingent upon Dean’s approval, satisfactory performance, departmental needs, and the availability of funding.
The successful candidate will teach four (4) sections of English 101 and/or English 102 each semester (4-4 course load), with the possibility of additional English courses, dependent upon the needs of the department. The successful candidate will also have the option to participate in Professional Track Faculty governance and opportunities to undertake department, college and/or university service.
In ENGL 101 and ENGL 102 we seek to provide excellent, engaging, and effective instruction in the fundamental skills of critical reading and analysis, writing, argumentation, and research. With this line we are expanding our professional-track faculty to provide excellent, engaging, and effective instruction in these courses.

Required Education and Experience
Candidates must hold a PhD in English with at least 3 years of experience teaching English at the college level, with demonstrated excellence in teaching first-year composition.
