East Stroudsburg University is hiring an Equipment Operator! Located in the beautiful Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, ESU’s proximity to New York City and Philadelphia provides convenient access to internships, careers and social activities. Just minutes from campus are the country’s largest water parks, scenic Delaware Water Gap Recreation Area, Appalachian Trail, and other opportunities for recreational fun.
As the Equipment Operator, you will need to think creatively and be comfortable operating a single-chassis truck to transport materials and equipment to and from campus maintenance and construction sites, snow removal, and cinder operations. You will be an active member of the Facilities Management team and will work closely with the Grounds Supervisor to plant and care for flowers and perform blacktop and concrete repairs. You will thrive in this role if you like combining your experience operating and maintaining large vans, buses, and single-chassis trucks and your knowledge of using hand tools and power tools. To be successful in this role, you must be responsible, safety conscious, and work well with minimal supervision.
Your normal schedule will be Wednesday through Sunday 7 am – 3:00 pm, but you may have to flex your schedule from time to time based on the needs of the business to be a true Equipment Operator. What Will I Do At ESU? (AKA Essential Duties)
- Operate single-chassis trucks with a gross vehicle weight between 17,000 and 32,000 pounds to transport materials and equipment to and from campus maintenance areas and construction sites along with snow removal and cinder operations duties.
- Operate steel-wheeled rollers weighing less than 10 tons, tractor-mounted grass and brush mowers, front-loaders, backhoes, and high-lifts with a bucket capacity of less than three cubic yards used for maintenance and construction work.
- Perform manual work using hand tools when not operating trucks or equipment. Responsible for unloading trucks, erecting signage, cutting grass and brush, clearing storm and roof drains, digging ditches, moving equipment for athletic and class activities on various campus fields, responsible shoveling snow, spreading ice control material, raking leaves, landscape installation, and maintenance.
- Plant and care for flowers, grass seed, sod, and landscape material. Layout and participate in the watering, fertilizing, sodding, trimming, and cleaning of campus lawns and flower beds.
- Layout, paint lines and markings, fertilize, mow, spray and perform other tasks needed to keep athletic fields prepared for competition and class activities.
- Perform blacktop and concrete repairs.
- Perform repairs and preventive maintenance work on equipment, clean and service equipment, and maintain equipment records.
- Demonstrate the operation of assigned equipment to other employees.
- Perform related work as required.
What We're Looking For (AKA Qualifications)
- Six months of experience in the operation and maintenance of large vans, buses, and single-chassis trucks with a gross vehicle weight of 10,001 pounds or more OR any equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Valid clean Pennsylvania Class C driver’s license.
- Knowledgeable of using hand tools and power tools.
- Ability to be exposed to physical condition, frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and extensive hand coordination movements.
- Ability to focus visually to operate heavy machinery
