EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, MARIN CONSERVATION LEAGUE (MCL)

MCL is looking for a strong leader who will serve our mission of environmental protection and continue to grow the organization.

The ideal candidate will be an energetic leader with political savvy, creative vision, and an entrepreneurial spirit. Candidates must demonstrate an understanding of conservation, land use policy, coastal and ocean issues, science, and regulatory frameworks. Experience in working with local governments is highly desirable.

MCL is a highly effective grassroots organization that works to protect and enhance environmental quality in Marin County, California. Founded in 1934, MCL has had many successes in protecting the public lands, wildlife and ocean resources of Marin County. Current programs include protection of open space and natural lands, protecting natural resources in Marin’s county, state and federal parklands, opposing development that causes environmental harm, promoting climate action, tracking plans and project development and interacting with the Board of Supervisors, Planning Commission, and other county, state and federal planning and environmental agencies. http://www.marinconservationleague.org/

MCL has an active volunteer working board of directors, all who live in Marin County, and hundreds of members who financially and/or actively contribute to our work. We work through advocacy, public education, multi-agency and stakeholder cooperative programs, grassroots organizing, and litigation when necessary. Position is located in San Rafael, CA and available April 5, 2023. Interviews will be held in April.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES

· A Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree preferred

· 3 years of non-profit management and leadership experience, or equivalent experience, preferably in an environmental organization.

· Proven ability to provide direction and execute a strategic plan.

· Excellent written and oral communications skills.

· Expertise in public and government relations.

· Ability in interpersonal relations and supervision of personnel.

· Proficiency in computer programs and electronic communications.

· Ability to execute strategic planning, financial management; reporting; fundraising; public relations; and human resource management.

· Solid experience in designing and managing communications practices, strategies, and systems that support them

· Ability to work independently as well as with a diverse Board of Directors and staff.

· Broad understanding in of Marin’s environmental issues and opportunities and related agencies and organizations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

· Directs the daily operations and programs of the organization and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements.

· Supervises 1-2 staff, creates workplan and completes evaluations

· Works with the Board of Directors to develop and implement the Strategic Plan.

· Oversight and Implementation of Initiatives, and Communications

· Membership Development and Engagement

· Donor development

· Communications

· Fiscal Responsibility

· Public/Government Relations

· Board Relations

· Reports to the Board on execution of the Strategic Plan and measurement against performance
