Reports To: Chief Financial Officer

Education

  • Bachelors Degree Facilities Management, Engineering, Architecture, Administration or a related building construction field. Relevant experience may substitute the degree requirement

Experience

  • Facilities maintenance, grounds and custodial principles and practice
  • Contract management principles and practices
  • Procurement principles and practices
  • Project management principles
  • Preventative maintenance principles and practice
  • Maintaining data and components for facilities, such as: Scheduled Maintenance and Facilities Condition Assessment
  • Sustainability in Facilities Management and maintaining currency in sustainable practice
  • Ability to supervise maintenance staff
  • Understanding and supportive of The Shelters mission
  • Highest level of ethics and honesty

Requirements

  • Must provide proof of COVID-19 vaccinations or exemption
  • Must have a valid Florida Driver's License
  • Must be able to pass state and national background checks
  • Successful completion of Core Competency course

Overview

Responsible for carrying out operating policies and procedures with a focus on custodial, grounds and maintenance activities. Responds to inquiries and requests for service from internal departments and supervises facility service paraprofessionals and technical/support staff. The Facilities Director also participates in the design, review, and planning of new construction and remodeling projects; and does related work as required

Essential Functions

  • Plans, organizes, maintains, and manages the operations and reliability of The Shelters facilities and general infrastructure systems
  • Trouble-shoots and responds to issues as needed regarding the operational aspects of the facilities
  • Updates and maintains list of facilities equipment, including life-cycle and replacement costs
  • Monitors and oversees the work of external contractors to ensure terms of agreements are met and work is completed satisfactorily
  • Assists the CFO by participating in facility related budgeting process
  • Assists the CFO with procurement and fiscal management activities associated with building and grounds maintenance activities

Facilities Responsibilities

Manages the day-to-day operations of custodial, grounds and building maintenance activities for all The Shelter facilities, including the Beau Venturi Home, the Shelly Stayer Shelter for Victims of Human Trafficking & Domestic Violence, transitional living housing, and The Shelters Options Shoppe. Provides direct management and supervision to personnel involved in the maintenance and repair of buildings and equipment; the care and cleaning of buildings and grounds; the operation of heating, air conditioning, and ventilating systems; plumbing and electrical systems; roofing, building envelope and interior maintenance of all The Shelters properties. Works collaboratively with the CFO to establish, maintain and update Shelter facilities policies and standards as needed. Assists the CFO with providing facilities and operational input on major/minor capital projects, new building design and on remodel-improvement projects, including working closely with vendors in the specification development stages of these projects

Security Responsibilities

Oversees the operation and maintenance of The Shelters security system. Maintains knowledge of security and fire systems. Oversees and schedules the annual fire inspections and health department inspections as well as monitors the safety and accessibility of The Shelters facilities

Human Resources Operations Department Responsibilities

Interview, hire, train, and supervise facilities and technical/support staff. Follow through with all necessary paperwork as it pertains to supervising staff (time sheets, schedules, time off, etc.).

Other responsibilities include assisting at fundraising events and with other duties, as assigned by supervisor.

ADA

Must be physically mobile and able to sit, stand, bend, stoop, and lift 25 pounds. Work is generally performed in both an office environment and an outdoor environment, with frequent interruptions and irregularities in the work schedule. This position requires regular visits and meetings at all of The Shelters facilities. Frequent walking, standing, climbing, lifting, stooping, or carrying of equipment and materials may be required.
