The Office of Enrollment Services is seeking to hire and train Peer Mentors who will work to provide resources and information around basic financial literacy to the OSU-Cascades Community. Peer Mentors will provide one-on-one paying for college/budgeting student meetings, serving at first point of contact at the Enrollment Services front desk, answering walk-in and telephone questions, providing information and referrals, assisting with presentations and workshops. Peer mentors will assist incoming families and students on their college finances at Cascades Connections Days. This unique experience will build in professional development and team building opportunities as well. Training for this position will take place during spring term, participating in comprehensive paying for college and financial literacy training; there will be on-going training throughout the academic year as well. The Mentors will utilize their skills and knowledge to educate their peers and families on all topics related to financial health and readiness. They will meet one-on-one, provide workshops & presentations, and other special financial literacy related tasks.
We will hire multiple candidates for this role. Future Peer Mentors must understand that there is a lot to learn and a lot of training that will be on-going throughout your tenure. New hires will need to be an independent worker, fast learner, interested and excited about the topic, and a team player. This position is located at OSU-Cascades in Bend, Oregon.
Position Duties
80%: Support Enrollment Services customer service and financial literacy initiatives for
OSU
-Cascades:
- Greet visitors, answer walk-in and telephone questions for students, faculty, and staff and provide information and referrals. Uses discretion for confidential information.
- Support Enrollment Services related projects and tasks, such as communication plans, event promotion, self-study modules, social media, etc.
- Participate in extensive and on-going training and professional development related to financial literacy, as well as mentoring best-practices.
- Attend and participate in paid weekly meetings and training.
- Conduct one-on-one peer mentor advising appointments on paying for college with current and prospective students and their families.
- Provide financial literacy presentations and workshops to the OSU-Cascades community.
- Help to organize and facilitate financial literacy events and projects, including the preparation of related documents and materials.
15%: Team building and professional development:
- When hired we will set a weekly meeting time where students will participate in team bonding and building activities. Continued training and professional development will be implemented into this time.
5%: Other duties as assigned

- Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
- Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
- Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
- High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
- Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
- Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
- Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
- Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*
- International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
- Available to meet the spring and summer requirements outlined below under Working Conditions/Work Schedule.
- Basic office skills (answering the phone, conversing via email, scheduling appointments, online data entry).
- Technological proficiency utilizing computers and working with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and virtual workspaces (Google Suite, Microsoft Teams, etc.).
- Highly responsible, self-starter, with a willingness to learn new systems and tools.
- Highly organized with an attention to detail and time management.
- Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and represent OSU-Cascades with maturity and professionalism.
- A passion for financial literacy and a sincere care for student success.
- Dependable, with the ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team, as well as independently.

SCHEDULE
- Work schedule can vary, but the student worker will be required to work approximately 10-20 hours per week depending on schedules and need. Financial Readiness Peer Mentors will need to be available for paid weekly staff meetings. Training in the spring and part of the summer could require up to 3 hours paid training each week in-person or over Zoom. Additional hours outside of this will be spent working through CAFE financial literacy modules and supporting the front desk. Once students begin peer-to-peer appointments, those will take place each week during regular business hours. We can work together to find a schedule that works for you, including hours during term breaks.
- Summer Break Scheduling Requirements:
- Peer Mentors must be available for every in-person Cascades Connections Days: July 28th, August 21st, and August 25th.
