Kennebec Lumber Company in Solon, Maine has an immediate opening for an experienced Flooring Mill Manager. The successful candidate for this position is highly motivated and will drive the flooring team to reach production goals effectively while keeping safety protocols a priority. The ideal candidate will establish an effective and committed operations culture of quality through promoting strict adherence to all policies and procedures. The Flooring Mill Manager will support Human Resources (HR) in the hiring process for assigned operations personnel while promoting employee education as needed throughout the organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Effective operation of the Flooring Mill as well as the Regrade line (personnel, production, and final products)
  • Monitor and implement improvements to increase efficiency, yield and grade accuracy as well as sq. feet, rustic %, yield and milling accuracy
  • Successfully delegate responsibilities within the flooring mill and regrade line
  • Create, mentor, and develop the team to instill the KLC culture of unwavering quality combined with industry leading production
  • Collaborate with Managers to maximize process efficiency and production through employee engagement and development as well as mill improvements in the flooring mill
  • Work in conjunction with other workgroups to share resources as needed to support the overall effective operation of KLC’s manufacturing processes
  • Oversee project installations and other mill improvements to achieve production and efficiency goals
  • Effectively execute KLC’s safety objectives by conducting hazard evaluations of jobs and perform routine inspections of facility for unsafe conditions and work practices and take corrective action to reduce/eliminate incident occurrence
  • Participate, Motivate, Support, and Implement site safety practices and culture
  • Work with outside vendors and manufactures to ensure equipment is functioning properly (scheduled maintenance, service visits, machine calibrations, etc.)
  • Travel as needed
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • 3 to 5 years’ experience in production environment in the forest products industry (secondary manufacturing experience)
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively at all levels of the organization; requires self-confidence but also respect for others, regardless of position.
  • Strong teamwork, interpersonal relations, communication, active-listening, and analytical skills
  • Relationship-centered leader with a desire to cultivate a sense of pride and growth amongst the team.
  • Ability to develop and grow future leaders.
  • Proven-track record as a trustworthy, transparent, and ethical leader who is well respected.
