DESCRIPTION

Under direct supervision of the clinic manager and the general supervision of the clinic providers and licensed nursing staff, performs work which requires specific knowledge and training in patient care duties within the business and profession code of the State of California and/or the regulations The Joint Commission (TJC). These duties include but are not limited to: all aspects of front office management, appointment scheduling, patient check-in, authorizations, accurate billing, payment processing, supply and forms management, insurance verification, assisting with online registrations, monitors and works the scheduling work queue and securing authorization for scheduled services.

Utilizes various automated eligibility systems to obtain basic eligibility information. Communicates clearly and effectively with patient/clinic staff when services are deemed unauthorized. Advises patient of clinic deposit requirements based upon UCSD Medical Group Financial Policy. Collects co-pays etc. Researches and responds to patient basic billing inquiries, assists with resolution of minor billing problems. Refers patient to appropriate agency/resource for financial assistance. Refers patient to alternate source of healthcare when appropriate. Maintains workstation in an organized manner as outlines by management to facilitate efficient and effective retrieval of information.

Reads and adheres to policy changes within Registration and Scheduling. Attends and actively participates in staff meetings, sharing information and ideas with co-workers to maintain and environment conducive to learning and supports cohesive team atmosphere. Provides coverage for front desk or authorization staff as required. Provides support and communication for patients, monitoring the timeliness of providers. Participates in clinic process improvement initiatives. Performs other related administrative support tasks as assigned. Position requires initiative, the ability to prioritize demands and the ability to work in a team environment. Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of three (3) years previous related experience in a large complex healthcare setting.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of third party payors including federal, state, and private health plans.

  • Proven problem solving ability by using good judgment and applying these skills to assist customers and ensure customers' expectations are met.

  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Applications i.e., Outlook, Word and Excel. Demonstrated computer skills and be able to work between multiple systems during calls.

  • Ability to work in an interactive environment and possess excellent customer service skills both in person and over phone.

  • Strong organizational skills with independent ability to set priorities, handle deadlines and manage conflicting demands with limited supervision.

  • Be a self-starter who is accountable and requires minimal direction and supervision; a person who is open to new ideas; and a creative and flexible individual who is comfortable working in a large, complex organization.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing. Possess the personal characteristics of professionalism, credibility, commitment to high standards, innovation, discriminating judgment and accountability.

  • Be able to maintain strict confidentiality with demonstrated experience applying good judgment and discretion.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • EPIC, ORSOS, PCIS, and IDX experience.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
  • May be required to float to other sites to provide coverage as needed. Possible overtime.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $53,077 - $65,960 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $25.42 - $31.59

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
