Purpose of Position:
The Volunteer Coordinator recruits, trains, and manages volunteers for various OK Humane programs and events to further the mission of saving animal lives in Oklahoma.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive recruitment, orientation, training, retention, and recognition plan for individual and group volunteers to ensure that all volunteers are knowledgeable and feel valued. Supervision of volunteer efforts is delegated to the team in the area where the volunteers are assigned.
- Create and conduct volunteer orientations and trainings.
- Conduct OK Humane tours as needed, including as part of volunteer orientations and training.
- Coordinates volunteer activities at large-scale OK Humane events.
- Collaborate with various programs and development leadership in creating and maintaining a comprehensive list of involvement opportunities throughout the organization and all campuses for individual and group volunteers.
- Develop and maintain complete and accurate records including volunteer policies, procedures, position descriptions and standards of conduct.
- Provide monthly and annual reports on all individual and group volunteer activities to include number of volunteers, number of hours, and in-kind contribution value of service.
- Collaborate with marketing staff to create and maintain appropriate collateral materials for recruitment of volunteers.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all volunteer requests, including telephone, voicemail, email, online requests and ensure a timely response.
- Organizes, proposes, and implements policies and procedures as they relate to volunteer programs.
- May interact with media, television, and radio as needed to promote community programs as they relate to OK Humane with the approval of CEO or Marketing Director.
- Interact frequently with local businesses, organizations, and individuals to schedule group volunteer experiences and to establish and develop community relationships that will benefit the OK Humane volunteer programs.
- Oversees community service personnel if necessary.
- Represents the Oklahoma Humane Society as a Professional.
- May be called upon to perform other OK Humane tasks including but not limited to the following: transporting animals, cleaning areas of the building including kennels, data entry, maintaining inventory and reordering, animal care, etc.
- Manage expenses and income budget line item for volunteer.
Job Requirements:
- 3 years job-related experience, such as working in a non-profit, managing volunteer programs, leading teams and /or organizations.
- Knowledge of management principles and evaluation techniques related to programs that involve a cadre of volunteers.
- Succinct communication skills, both verbal and written; ability to organize thoughts in a logical, clear and concise manner.
- Volgistics experience/familiarity (preferred).
- Organization and planning skills.
- Demonstrated capability to conduct oneself in a calm and professional demeanor when dealing with public and/or difficult situations.
- Ability to work well with a diverse group of staff and volunteers.
- Willingness to adjust hours to accommodate the needs of the job.
- Ability to effectively manage a wide array of tasks, projects, and responsibilities.
- Ability to work productively in an unstructured environment with frequent interruptions.
Physical Demands:
- Frequent bending, reaching, kneeling, climbing stairs, walking, and standing on feet 8-10 hours per day while performing job functions.
- Subject to animal bites and scratches while handling animals of questionable temperament.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds repeatedly throughout the day with help.
