Terms of Employment:
- Start Date: ASAP
- Responsible to the Director of Buildings and Grounds or designee
- Location: District
- Calendar: 261 Day / Year-Round Employee
- Daily Schedule: 6:00 am - 2:30 pm
- Hours Per Day: 8.0 hours per day with a 30-minute unpaid lunch / 15-minute paid break
- Hourly Rate: $20.25
- Benefits: Eligible for medical benefits and paid leave. IMRF participation is required.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Minimum of three years experience with prior demonstrated knowledge in at least two of the following areas: Carpentry, Locksmith, Plumbing, Certified Pool Operator, Life Safety systems.
- CPO certification preferred or must obtain within 12 months of start date.
- The ability to perform minor electrical repairs i.e. Light fixture, Ballast replacement, outlet/switch replacement.
- Have the ability to repair equipment according to instruction manuals and follow district maintenance schedules.
- Ability to perform minor maintenance on equipment with no supervision and perform major maintenance on equipment with assistance from the Mechanical and/or Skilled Maintenance Specialist.
- Moves furniture, office supplies, and other district materials as needed.
- Possess safety habits, skills, and insight while performing work assignments.
- Must be capable of understanding instructions and physically able to perform assigned tasks.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with all staff and the public.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
Responsibilities / Duties:
- Open the building and preps interior spaces for school i.e. turns on lights, unlocks doors, etc.
- Must be highly skilled in one or more of the following trades: Carpentry, Locksmith, Plumbing.
- Will utilize the Schooldude software program for completion and/or disposition of work orders.
- Maintenance of any equipment according to schedules outlined in the preventive maintenance manuals and/or the Schooldude system.
- Performs maintenance work as scheduled and/or directed by the Facilities Director and/or Skilled Maintenance Specialist.
- Helps to ensure the safe, efficient operation of the building for students and staff.
- Performs duties as assigned, in all types of weather conditions.
- Willing to work as part of a team towards completing any assigned maintenance projects.
- Responsible for safety and good housekeeping practices in area assigned.
- Participates in district-sponsored training programs to update knowledge and skills.
- Performs other duties as assigned by Facilities Director and/or Skilled Maintenance Specialist and may be assigned tasks by the Building Principal or their designee.
- Must be willing to assist the Grounds department with snow removal when conditions dictate.
- Ability is needed to safely operate district vehicles and a variety of other tools and equipment needed for maintenance or repair.
- The individual must be able to work outside in all weather conditions, climb ladders, and crawl through tunnels on roofs or scaffolds.
- Must have the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures. Able to speak effectively.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Establishes and maintains effective relationships with students, staff and the community. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
- Other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, and talk or hear
- The employee frequently must squat, stoop or kneel, reach above the head and reach forward. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools and climbs on ladders.
- The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing the duties of this job.
- The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds or more, such as cleaning supplies, pails, and unloading trucks.
- Exposure to noise and activity of a school setting.
