Grants and Contracts Specialist - Reporting to the Department Fiscal Officer, will conduct pre and post-award activities in collaboration with principal investigators as part of Food Science and Technology.

Pre-Award - Participates with the development and preparation of grant proposals; provides pre-award expertise in support of the production review and receipt of budget; and other required administrative components of the grant proposal submission process; provides proposal development tools aids; establishes appropriate sub-recipient budgets and documents as needed for grant submissions; serves as primary specialist and contact on all electronic and paper proposal preparation for assigned grants; coordinates submission of proposals with the Office of Sponsored Programs; investigates evaluates and notifies principal investigators of funding opportunities; collaborates with principal investigators and funding sources to develop and prepare appropriate budgets for research activities; ensures compliance with sponsor university and third party regulations; participates with training of new PIs and their staff coordinates special funding requests and internal commitments. Prepares a monthly listing of funding opportunities for distribution to researchers.

Post Award - will monitor the fiscal health of active projects and provide budget forecasts to the PIs and the Fiscal Officer as necessary, focusing on awards that close out in the next 365 days. Plans, manages and implements post-award activities; monitors financial activity; reviews, analyzes and reconciles project fiscal reports; monitors project budgets; assists PIs with effort certification; identifies and resolves project overruns; works with PIs and Office of Sponsored Programs in the development of subcontracts, consultant agreements and no cost-extensions; ensures final grant awards are issued in accordance with award documents; monitors and prepares projects for close-out; oversees personnel project appointments, advising fiscal officer of needed costing allocation updates, monitors cost-share and release time.

Minimum Education Requirement: Bachelor’s Level Degree

Required Qualifications: Considerable grant or contract management experience; knowledge of pre-award grant management process. A successful Grants Specialist has the ability to perform the following essential skills and competencies: Possess time management, follow-through, organizational skills, and attention to detail; be capable of multi-tasking, problem solving, and possess strong verbal and written communication skills; Be capable of efficiently learning new systems and adopting new procedures; Be self-motivated, and balance working autonomously as well as within a team; be comfortable with being flexible and adaptable performing in a high volume and deadline driven environment; Understand the importance and value in providing exceptional customer service; Possess the ability to review and interpret sponsor and University policies and procedures; Apply financial analysis and budgeting skills using Excel spreadsheets as a tool; Enjoy working in a culture that promotes work/life balance, peer collaboration, autonomy, and supportive leadership.

Desired Qualifications: Certified Research Administration (CRA) certificate; knowledge of federal, state or private agency sponsors, contract/grant regulations, procurement, budgeting, accounting and financial management. Experience with OSU Financial and PI portal systems. Experience working with faculty, administrators, and Research Foundation representatives.

The pay range for this job profile is 49,800.00 - 66,400.00/annual. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications.
