Purpose
Provides basic landscaping work performing semi-skilled grounds maintenance tasks to maintain the health and appearance of The University of Texas at Austin campus landscape.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains landscape to university standards (to include all turf, shrubs, and hardscapes) and reports trouble conditions on campus that might be a safety hazard to the university community. Driving University owned vehicles to job sites will be required for this and most other functions.
  • Safely operates landscaping equipment to include power mowers, cultivators, edgers, small sweepers, and other equipment used in gardening work.
  • Picks up litter, empties trash receptacles, and keeps University property neat and orderly.
  • Irrigates the landscape, abides by water restrictions, and performs minor repairs on irrigation systems.
  • Readily accepts and follows written and oral instructions, maintains work schedule set by the supervisor, and completes routine paperwork to include weekly electronic time reports, daily labor reports, vehicle usage log, and other UT related electronic forms.
  • Wears appropriate personal protective equipment, PPE, for the task, follows safety rules, and maintains safe working conditions.
  • Cleans, maintains, operates a university vehicle, and maintains acceptable driver rating as established in Policy UTS157 Section 2.5.4.
  • Adheres to and performs related functions as assigned, and works overtime in support of special events, emergencies and planned after hours work. Other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Completion of ninth grade. Experience following basic work instructions. Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, office staff, and the university community. Demonstrates ability to work in a team environment, as well as independently. Demonstrates stable work history and work ethic. Experience with basic computer operations to complete data entry and or electronic forms. Ability to pull, push, and lift up to 50 lbs. Capable of working in all types of adverse conditions (environmental, weather, dust, loud noise, heights, fumes, smoke, air pollution, allergens, etc.).

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

One year experience in landscape maintenance work in a university, institutional, or commercial setting to include operating power mowers, cultivators, edgers, small sweepers, and other equipment used in gardening work including the required qualifications.

Salary Range

$31,200 + Depending on Qualifications
