- Must possess a high school diploma/GED
- Current and valid Texas Driver’s license
- Undergo a criminal background investigation and provided employment reference
- Be a U.S. citizen by birth or naturalization
- Work flexible hours, rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
- Ability to stand or walk for several hours each day and work in all weather conditions
- Ability to fill out report forms and activity logs
- One or more years of previous security guard experience
- Knowledge of proper procedures for university emergencies
- Ability to use handheld two-way radio
- Ability to disarm alarm systems
- Ability to communicate with the public courteously even in a controversial situation.
- Basic computer skills (familiarity with MS Word /Excel or equivalent) to complete written reports or activity logs
- Basic math skills
- Monitor and assist with the security and protection of university buildings and properties
- Provide friendly and quality information to students, employees, and visitors
- Unlock and lock facilities as directed
- Conduct patrols of designated areas, on foot, in a vehicle, or on a golf cart
- Routine building checks. Respond to residence hall access breaches
- Respond to fire alarms/trouble alarms and other emergencies
- Vehicle assistance/jump-starts
- Complete written reports
- Assist University Police patrol units
- Other related functions as assigned
- Work special events
