Education and Work Experience:
Education: High school diploma or GED.
Work/Professional Experience: Minimum of two years’ experience working office, clerical, or administrative support involving use of computer data entry and word processing programs. At least 2 years in human resources preferred.
Work Experience in Business environments considered.
Scope of Position:
The function of the Human Resources Assistant will assist the Program Administrator with the processing of personnel related documents, benefits, and programs for all staff related to the Safe Park and Safe Rest Villages.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook required.
- Microsoft PowerPoint, helpful.
- Working knowledge of integrated database applications and ability to use new software programs with basic training. Must be courteous and respectful to teammates and donors.
- Must be congenial and able to work with difficult individuals.
Licenses and Certifications required: Driver License - Preferred
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Able to ensure complete confidentiality and privacy of staff information.
- Prepare all documentation related to the hiring of employees.
- Assist Program Administrator with all communications (verbal and written) this includes but is not limited to telephone, email, all types of mailings, and preparing various types of correspondences, forms, and reports as needed.
- Prepare recruitment announcements internal/external postings.
- Provide oversight and processing of the Hiring Process
- Assist in maintaining of the timecards of each employee.
- Prepare Performance reviews and tracking.
- Process Time off Documentation.
- Assist payroll (DHQ) in making sure all timesheets are correct before final submission.
- Assist in maintaining the personnel record keeping process to ensure access to and completeness of information regarding employees.
- Review employee vacation and floating holiday requests for employees.
- Be knowledgeable of employee insurance benefit programs, including medical, dental, short-term disability, and worker’s compensation insurances.
- Report and maintain information on workers compensation claims.
- Perform all tasks associated with Human Resources.
- Able to understand Oregon Laws related to HR and Salvation Army Policy.
- All other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:
- Sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis.
- Grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinets drawers, and reach overhead.
- Operate telephone.
- Operate a desktop or laptop computer.
- Lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
Working Conditions:
- Work in all types of weather conditions.
- Works on many projects at once in a semi-open office environment with interruptions and noises from voices, telephones, printers.
MISCELLANEOUS:
The Salvation Army does have a dress code that includes professional dress which is appropriate to the work environment and reflects well on the organization.
