The Human Resources Director is responsible to ensure that all practices with respect to employment are consistent, sound, and legally acceptable. As such s/he provides input and consultation to the management team with respect to HR issues and concerns. The Human Resources Director oversees all operational aspects of the HR Department including: recruitment, interviewing process, pre-employment screening, onboarding, benefits, HRIS system, unemployment, and composing letters confirming employment activity, maintaining job descriptions, performance review tracking, and volunteer coordination.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Ÿ To exemplify the Ministry of Caring mission and values

Ÿ To supervise the Human Resources Department staff.

Ÿ To work closely with management to help identify opportunities and needs, and solutions to problem areas identified.

Ÿ To respond to concerns brought forth by Program Directors and/or employees.

Ÿ To facilitate benefit renewals, ensuring that products offered meet key employee needs, and are cost-effective.

Ÿ To ensure that all benefit invoices are thoroughly checked for accuracy, and to approve and forward to finance on a timely basis to ensure prompt payment.

Ÿ To provide guidance and interpretation with respect to policy; to ensure that policy is consistently applied throughout the organization.

Ÿ To identify recruiting sources, and publicize position vacancies.

Ÿ To review incoming resumes to determine those that meet basic position qualifications.

Ÿ To conduct interviews for position vacancies, and to make recommendations to the program directors for preferred candidates to be scheduled for second interviews.

Ÿ To ensure that all candidates for employment are properly screened.

Ÿ To compose and issue all letters related to employment, including: hire, termination/resignation, medical leave, transfer, disciplinary probation, raise, or any other change which must be confirmed.

Ÿ To respond promptly to all unemployment claims with requested information regarding the employment separation, and to defend the Ministry of Caring’s position for unemployment appeals.

Ÿ To respond to any DOL matters, including requests for earnings and/or audits.

Ÿ To ensure that policy is current with respect to best/current practices and legal mandates, and to provide internal guidance pertaining to violations of policy.

Ÿ To provide day-to-day guidance to the HR staff with respect to ongoing duties, special needs, and new initiatives.

Ÿ To participate on internal committees, as needed/requested, such as Safety Committee and the Appreciation Dinner committee.

Ÿ To ensure that all worker’s comp claims are reported on a timely basis and to maintain OSHA log.

Ÿ To oversee the employee performance evaluation process.

Ÿ To respond to all external and internal requests for information on a timely basis.

Ÿ To perform other duties as needed and assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Ÿ Genuine concern for the homeless poor and sensitivity to their need for dignity and respect.

Ÿ Dependability and cooperative attitude; reliability and honesty.

Ÿ Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in business/human resources/organizational development or related field.

Ÿ Minimum of five years experience in a human resources managerial role, with a scope that includes both strategic and hands-on duties. Experience overseeing a non-profit HR Department a plus.

Ÿ Knowledge of federal and state laws governing employment; knowledge of standard/best practices in employment.

OTHER SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE:

Ÿ Willingness to work as a team player with other directors and staff members.

Ÿ Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Products.

Ÿ Strong oral and written communication skills.

Ÿ Good problem solving and negotiation skills.

Ÿ Ability to motivate and coach.

Ÿ Ability to maintain a high level of discretion and confidentiality.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ÿ Ability to manipulate computer keyboard.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

To be able to travel to all program sites on short notice, as needed.

BENEFITS:

The Ministry of Caring provides a comprehensive benefits program including generous paid time off.

  • This position accrues vacation equivalent to 3 weeks per calendar year along with 11 paid holidays, and earned Sick and Emergency time which can accrue from one year to the next.
  • Excellent, affordable health benefit options are provided upon reaching 90 days of employment.
  • After one year of employment, the Ministry provides: dental benefits (low employee contribution) and fully-employer paid pension (5% of earnings), life, and long term disability.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
