Mercury is looking for a passionate and driven Human Resources (People Operations) Manager to join our dynamic team to help scale organizational growth. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the day-to-day people operations function, touching upon multiple disciplines, such as Recruiting, Benefits, Business Partner Needs, Hiring, Onboarding, Communications, Professional Development, Employee Engagement and Internal Events, such as Happy Hours. The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of people operations experience in a dynamic or startup environment, a positive can-do attitude, and a proven record of getting things done.
ROLE OBJECTIVES:
- You will provide vital support to the organization’s talent goals and business partnership in aspects of human resources (HR), recruiting, organizational development, culture, and employee engagement. This position reports to our Chief Marketing Officer and Chief People Officer (CMO and CPO).
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Implement human resources programs by providing human resources services, including talent acquisition, staffing, employment processing, compensation, health, and welfare benefits, training and development, records management (using BambooHR), safety and health, employee relations and retention, compliance, completing personnel onboarding and transactions.
- Champion collaborative cross-functional relationships Payroll/Accounting, Finance, hiring managers, and other teams, to ensure the successful onboarding and offboarding of new employees and contingent workers.
- Develop human resources solutions by collecting and analyzing information; conduct employee surveys, recommend courses of action based on data.
- Prepare executive and management reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and trends, using BambooHR and other tools, as required.
- Own the office management function, ensuring we have supplies of fruits and snacks, as well as setting up desks for new employees as part of onboarding.
- Improve manager and employee performance by identifying and clarifying problems; evaluating potential solutions; implementing selected solutions; coaching and counseling managers and employees.
- Complete special projects by clarifying project objectives; setting timetables and schedules; conducting research; developing and organizing information; fulfilling transactions.
- Manage client expectations by communicating project status and issues; resolving concerns; analyzing time and cost issues; preparing reports.
- Protect organization's value by keeping information confidential.
- Comply with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.
- Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
- Improve department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
- Promote and support a performance-driven culture based on working from Strengths (we use the Gallup Clifton Strengths as a foundation).
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- You've done this before—you have experience in a high-growth startup environment with constant change as your companion; 3-5+ years of experience working as a People Partner, HR Manager, HR Program Manager or similar role.
- Strong values with a clear inner core of purpose-driven leadership.
- Strong problem solving, reporting and analytical skills. Skilled in the Microsoft Office Suite and Teams.
- Knowledge of HRIS, understanding of how they integrate with payroll systems
- Demonstrated ability to research and analyze problems, providing feedback, guidance, and direction.
- A clear understanding of Human Resources practices and legal requirements.
- Familiarity with the critical components of a successful HR department including employment law, performance management, resolving conflict, having difficult conversations, employee engagement, training, maintaining employee files, and managing operational budgets.
- Clear, strong verbal communication and advising skills. Good listening skills. Demonstrated ability to work with leadership at all levels.
- Well-developed writing and presentation skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly across all levels of the organization.
- Discretion, sensitivity, and confidentiality. Demonstrated ability to listen, analyze and inform appropriately while maintaining the required sensibilities in handling confidential information.
- This position will be based at our Boston Headquarters
- 10%-15% travel required to our other locations (e.g., NYC, Chicago)
- 4-5 days in the Boston office
- Must possess a Bachelor’s Degree with demonstrated ability to understand the language of business. SPHR or other HR certification is a bonus.
