Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Development Director, the Individual Gifts Manager will implement and conduct an individual donor fundraising strategy to significantly increase the impact of individual giving for the National Capitol Area Command, it’s 10 Corps locations. The Individual Gifts Manager will ensure the highest ethical standards for fundraising that will provide support to and enable the programs and services of the National Capitol Area Command. Raises funds through donations generated from individuals, for the National Capitol Area Command. Develops and nurtures a Donor Portfolio and using a Moves Management Plan and maintains accurate and timely donor records and reports in Raisers Edge (InterChange). Establishes and maintains effective donor relationships and communication. Must live in or be willing to travel around the National Capitol Area.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of Raisers Edge. Knowledge of current principles and practices of individual, donors. Knowledge of moves management. Knowledge of the principles and practices of fund-raising management. Knowledge of the principles and practices of major gifts administration. Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws governing fund-raising and taxation. Knowledge of cultivation and stewardship programs. Knowledge of prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation, and donor relations. Knowledge of board fundraising. Skill in listening. Skill in communicating effectively. Skill in relationship building. Ability to move a donor through moves management to a higher giving level Ability to develop and administer a fund-raising budget. Ability to maintain the security and accountability of donated funds and/or assets. Ability to provide leadership to peers and subordinate development and fund-raising staff. Ability to supervise, lead, motivate, monitor, and evaluate employees. Ability to present a positive and professional image of The Salvation Army. Ability to prepare and maintain reports in an accurate, complete, and timely manner. Ability to work independently and with limited supervision. Ability to maintain a positive attitude during stressful times. Ability to be flexible and learn new and /or creative and effective ways of accomplishing job responsibilities. Ability to organize and prioritize work. Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language effectively. Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing. Ability to speak before small and large groups of people. Ability to travel to various locations within the DMV to participate in public meetings, conferences, etc. Ability to work under the pressure of deadlines and time constraints. Ability to establish goals and objectives and meet those goals. Ability to apply discretion and independent judgment and exercise confidentiality. Ability to be creative in generating ideas and enhancing development programs, as well as demonstrating and practicing the ability to be a self-starter.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university in Non-Profit Management, Business Administration, Communications, Psychology or related field and three years of experience in major giving and non-profit fundraising; experience with a fund-raising CRM, preferably Raisers Edge, as well as experience with Wealth Engine.
Licenses and Certifications

Fundraising Certificate (CFRE), preferred

Valid Driver’s license

Physical Requirements

Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking. Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, lifting and carrying (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Working Conditions

Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts, occasionally work is performed off-site and can be associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
