Silgan Closures, New Castle Plant, is a major producer of plastic closures for the water, juice, and dairy industry. Silgan is searching for a mechanically inclined entry level maintenance employee to join their team. This position will train with experienced maintenance team member with the opportunity to advance to a Maintenance Technician Level 1.

Basic Purpose

This position will be a trainee while learning all the responsibilities of a Maintenance Technician. Additional training will be provided to those who show the aptitude and ability to advance within the maintenance department.

Essential Functions

• Assist with troubleshooting, repair, modify and perform preventative maintenance on all hydraulic systems, electrical units, controls, components, and related wiring with adherence to all safety regulation
• Assist with tooling maintenance
• Accurately use and read a variety of measuring devices
• Operating mobile equipment, including forklift trucks, and scissor lifts
• Reports any food safety and quality problems or concerns to the Plant Quality Manager
• Performs other designated duties of the quality system as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

• Mechanical ability with a desire to learn the unique skills necessary to maintain and troubleshoot injection and compression presses and other plant equipment
• Experience working on manufacturing equipment and mobile equipment is a plus.
• Semi‐skilled in work as machinist, electrician, HVAC technician, welding, plumbing is a plus
• Good trouble shooting skills, ability to diagnose and complete repairs in emergencies
• Ability to take direction as well as be self-motivated and work alone under high-pressure situations
• Flexible to work weekends and overtime as needed
• Must possess attention to detail and be able to demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness.
• Knowledge of basic computer skills.

• Periods of standing over 2/3 of time spent on the job.
• Walking, squatting, stooping, reaching, talking/hearing, and climbing/balancing 1/3 to 2/3 of time spent on the job.
• Using hands to finger, handle, or feel over 2/3 of time spent on the job.
• Periods of lifting/carrying under 1/3 of time spent on the job with occasional lifting/carrying of up to 50 pounds.
• Periods of crouching/crawling/kneeling/bending under 1/3 of time spent on the job.
• Vision requirement includes close vision, depth perception, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
  

Climate
Heavy physical activity performing non-strenuous daily activities of a productive/technical nature under general supervision in which occasionally work is checked while in progress and work is reviewed upon completion. Outdoors and indoor shop environment with adequate ventilation and exposure to noise levels at or above 85 decibels, for which Personal Protective Equipment is provided. Production environment contains high voltage electrical devices. Some work spaces may be awkward and/or confining. Periods of working above ground level where the possibility of falling exists (i.e. on ladders or scaffolding at heights above 20 feet)
