The Instructional Coach’s purpose is to support teachers in their implementation of the Acero Schools curriculum and their execution of effective instructional methods. The Instructional Coach facilitates the development of teachers’ skills and knowledge, further building each individual’s capacity in order to achieve the school’s academic goals for student growth and achievement.

While Instructional Coaches do not work directly with students, they are responsible for coaching our teachers in building meaningful, long-lasting relationships with students, families and colleagues.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Collaborates directly with a designated group of teachers to improve student achievement.
  • Ensures teacher improvement in order to achieve goals and key performance indicators.
  • Provides detailed teacher feedback in the following areas: instructional planning, instructional delivery, assessment, data analysis, respectful student discipline, classroom management, and utilization of curriculum resources.
  • Develops teachers’ Professional Growth Plans with each teacher. Supports the implementation of the plan by evaluating the teacher’s progress in meeting each goal through regular classroom observations, lesson plan critiques, and one-on-one meetings.
  • Counsels the Principal regarding the ability of individual teachers, as supported by data.
  • Clearly and accurately communicates with administration, colleagues, and larger academic community to improve academic outcomes for all students.
  • Analyzes school data to give direction to teachers and provide accountability for teacher impact on student growth and performance.
  • Exhibits professionalism, leadership, and personal responsibility for daily work and attendance, personal appearance, student learning, and school success.
  • Demonstrate collegial behavior and make positive contributions to the school community.
  • Believe in our ability to create the future we envision.
  • Other duties, responsibilities, and special projects as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree (required), Master’s degree or higher in education or related field (preferred)
  • Minimum three years teaching experience (required)
  • Minimum one year of school leadership or management experience (strongly preferred)
  • Proven track record of academic progress of students under his/her leadership
  • Ability to articulate best instructional practices for driving student achievement
  • Possess valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) or equivalent (strongly preferred)
  • Possess valid Illinois Administrative Certification or equivalent (strongly preferred)
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States (required)


PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS


The nature of the work requires an ability to operate standard business office equipment, collect, compile and prepare work documents, set-up and maintain work files, and an ability to communicate and exchange information. Physical demands include the ability to stand, bend, reach high and low, stoop, and walk around the classroom 60% of the day. In addition, candidates must be able to lift and/or push and pull 15 to 20 lbs. for short periods of time, and walk up and down stairs several times a day.

Majority of work is performed in a general school environment. Position requires availability for extended hours plus non-traditional hours required to perform job duties. Also requires participation and attendance at organization-sponsored events and meetings.
