Duties and Responsibilities
This position will be responsible for a wide range of academic library services including assistance with library research both online and in person, information literacy instruction, reference and individual consultation services, collection and resource development (including increasing demands for support for online courses both synchronous and asynchronous), cataloging of library materials both physical and electronic, providing library support for distance learning, and marketing of library services. In addition, this position will help to facilitate the operations of general library infrastructure, technical services, and physical space. Provide general and specialized reference and research support for in-person and online learning.
Serve as a liaison to academic programs and provide culturally responsive teaching and learning services for students and instructors in subject areas taught at Kaua?i CC.- Promote and provide instruction, workshops, and presentations for faculty, staff, and students to enable campus-wide success with information literacy, digital literacy, research, and technical library skills.
- Create and manage a broad range of digital teaching and learning objects, particularly in support of asynchronous online courses and remote learners.
- Facilitate access to Hawai?i and Pacific materials and other library resources by creating online research guides, tutorials, and other informational and instructional materials.
- Develop and maintain the library’s collections through acquisition and management of current and retrospective materials, including print and electronic formats.
- Provide cataloging services for resources in both print and electronic formats.
- Participate and contribute to the planning and evaluation of the Library's in-person and online academic and learning services and spaces through annual program reviews, student learning assessments, and other data collection and analysis.
- Apply knowledge of emerging technological trends and the best practices in the provision of excellent library services, teaching methods, and instructional design for information literacy to develop and implement accessible and learner-centered library learning experiences.
- Work collaboratively and cross-functionally with librarians and other key campus partners.
- Keep current with issues related to Kaua?i, the Native Hawaiian community, emerging technologies, and academic librarianship including pedagogical practices, learning outcomes, and assessment through training and continuing education.
- Actively participate in professional engagement or service at the library, college, and UH system level.
- Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff in a diverse/multicultural environment.
- Ability to apply superior interpersonal skills in a team-based, public-facing, service-oriented environment.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of challenges and opportunities facing libraries in general.
- Excellent communication skills both in-person and virtually (written and oral) using various media and technologies.
- Provide service for evening or weekend hours, if needed
- Additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (MLS/MLIS) from an ALA- accredited institution.
Desirable Qualifications
- Work experience in a community college library setting.
- Experience in the development and implementation of effective operational initiatives and innovative user services/approaches
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively with colleagues in a team-based environment and resolve personal conflicts and complex issues creatively and in a positive manner.
- Successful experience in providing innovative reference service (to include electronic), access (circulation, reserves, interlibrary loan), and/or student resource services.
- Experience with developing and assessing library services through performance measures focused on student learning outcomes.
- Effective use of computer applications (e.g., word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software) within the work environment.
