The Family Counseling Center of Fulton County, a mental and behavioral health clinic located in the heart of the Mohawk Valley is seeking candidates for Outpatient Mental Health Intake Specialists for our Gloversville, NY location. The organization, founded in 1976, works with individuals, children, and families throughout a six-county area with focus on clients in the Fulton and Montgomery County region. Intake Specialists

The Intake Specialist is responsible for the assessment and registration of incoming clients seeking therapeutic services. They will provide crisis service duties as well as assessment to determine if outpatient or telehealth services are appropriate and act as a consult resource regarding clinical issues and level of care decisions, including hospitalizations, as needed. The Intake Specialist is also tasked with clerical duties such as managing documentation, data entry, engaging with clients and answering the crisis phone. The ideal candidate will possess strong systems knowledge, motivation to make recommendations about levels of care, and the energy and commitment to ensuring clients have thorough evaluations that result in highly accurate acuity determinations and corresponding documentation for treatment planning. Responsibilities also include speaking with and collecting information from clients and referral sources, this requires strong interpersonal skills, and attention to detail. The Intake Specialist should also have a solid understanding of the mental health clinic and Agency services. Individuals in this position must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and have the time-management and multitasking skills necessary to perform a variety of duties concurrently.

Ideal candidates for the position will have the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, or Human Services related as deemed appropriate by the Agency.
  • Have at least 2 years of previous experience, preferably in the area of mental health or addictions
  • Must be comfortable and competent in working with individuals who have experienced complex mental, emotional, or relational trauma
  • Must be committed to fostering a culture of wellness and trauma informed care
  • Must be energetic, motivated, self-sufficient, creative, and reliable
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google and familiar with electronic health records
  • Willingness to follow clinic’s standards of practice and standards of care
  • Ability to successfully pass the Medicaid exclusion screening and background check
  • Demonstrable ability to connect with and provide support to a diverse client population
