Role Summary

The IoT Controls Engineer for Magna is responsible for implementing the most cost-effective methods for sensing and collecting the necessary data and delivering it from the production line to our data management environment. In addition, the IoT Controls Engineer must oversee the operation and programming of all industrial control systems and equipment. Determines industrial controls needs with respect to the current operation and plans for future control needs. Interacts with engineering, maintenance and operations concerning controls systems issues and solutions. Ensures the proper operations of the following systems - PLC Systems, VFD's, HMI's, OT Networks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Apply knowledge of Operational Technology, Industrial Control Systems, Internet of Things, Industrial Internet of Things, Supervisory Control, and Data Acquisition architecting principles to evolve current architectures that are efficient and meet business needs
  • Lead integration of IoT including physical and wireless networking
  • Program and deploy PLC logic (Allen Bradley) and Factory Talk HMI interfaces for new projects and current system modifications
  • Modifies and generates electrical schematics using AutoCAD.
  • Provides support and consulting on industrial controls projects to engineering, production, maintenance, and other plant departments as needed
  • Executes data and system file backups according to procedure, including PLC and HMI files.
  • Interfaces with vendors to specify and implement controls solutions
  • Identify industry trends, opportunities, and security gaps; help convert these needs and gaps into technical requirements and security strategy roadmaps
  • Analyze project requirements and perform technical calculations supporting design including electrical requirements, robotic safety standards, and motor controls
  • Good understanding on IT connectivity Protocol

Key Qualifications/Requirements

Working technical knowledge of:
  • Good understanding of Controls/IoT protocols
  • Fundamental understanding of ladder logic, I/O, and network communications
  • Basic understanding of IP, TCP/IP, and other network protocols
Experience with:
  • Experience with Allen Bradly PLC programming, HMI’s
  • Microsoft Office product suite.
Work Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical, Chemical) preferred
  • Three to five years of experience in controls design and implementation
Skills and Competencies:
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
  • Self-motivated and directed
  • Creative problem-solving skills and patience to evaluate and troubleshoot process and control system performance
  • Capable producing innovative solutions to engineering problems and customer operational issues
  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical, computer & software skills
  • Ability to explain moderately complex information to others in concise manner
  • Good written and presentation skills
