Kitchen Staff Job Description :
The Kitchen Staff position is an integral member of the restaurant team, and must be dedicated, and organized. Must enjoy working as part of a team in a fast paced culinary. Streamlines work from back of house to front of house. Applicant should be a committed, communicative team player with excellent time management skills. You should be able to prioritize tasks in a busy setting and adhere to all food safety regulations and procedures.
Cook Job Duties/Description:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES/FUNCTIONS:
- Ensuring the availability of clean dishes, washing dishes, pots, pans, and flatware, and placing in proper areas.
- Preparing kitchen for next shift by cleaning and restocking cook stations.
- Cleaning machines and appliances used in the kitchen, such as microwave, fryer, pots, and pans, etc.
- Unloading and storing deliveries.
- Sweeping and mopping floors, especially in the event that items are broken or spilled.
- Taking out the trash and rinsing garbage cans.
- Supporting other restaurant staff members by assisting with other tasks, as needed.
- Reporting kitchen accidents or violations of food safety codes and procedures.
- Help food preparation staff when necessary.
- Monitor and maintain cleanliness, sanitation and organize kitchen areas.
- Complete opening and closing duties as well as appropriate side work as designated by established procedures.
- Know and abide by all environmental policies.
- Cleans food preparation areas as determined by law and company policy
- Prepares foods as specified my menu
- Prepares food before the arrival of guests
- Makes adjustments to food items to accommodate guests with allergies or specific diet concerns
- Manages other employees in the kitchen in the absence of the executive chef
- Acts as liaison to front-of-house employees to ensure proper food service temperature
- Seasons food according to recipes or company needs
- Communicate needed ingredients and spices to executive chef according to inventory procedures
- Operates various kitchen appliance
- Portions, arranges, and garnishes food based on client preference
- Assists other cooks during the food assembly process
- Assist the executive chef in the creation of new recipes
- Estimates expected food consumption and organizes preparation
- Butchers and cooks meat based on the restaurant needs
- Meets with customers to ensure a great meal experience
- Prepares any necessary sauces or accompaniments before meal service begins
- Stays open until the last customer leaves
- Cleans up after business hours
- Communicates with executive chef about how to improve meal service
- Ensures all equipment is kept clean and in good working condition
- Maintain proper food labeling based on health department law requirements.
- Any job duties deems necessary or requested
MARGINAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES/FUNCTIONS:
- Complete cleaning projects as required.
- Work additional restaurant shifts and positions as needed.
- Knows and follows all company, Environmental, Health, and Safety Management Programs.
- Works extra shifts and hours as required.
- A positive attitude and ability work well under pressure with other staff.
- Able to perform high-quality work while unsupervised.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment.
- Additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS REQUIRED TO PERFORM JOB DUTIES:
- Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Exceptional multi-tasking skills and ability to maintain concentration while working in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and be self-motivated
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM JOB DUTIES:
- Climb stairs and walk on hard, uneven and slippery surfaces.
- Stand constantly and move on feet quickly for extended periods of time.
- Kneel, bend, stoop and squat repetitively.
- Twist and turn frequently.
- Reach down, forward and overhead frequently.
- Work in hot areas of kitchen (around dishwasher, ovens, cooking equipment) and cold areas (walk in refrigerators and freezers).
- Lift up to 50 pounds.
- Work with kitchen and general cleaning supplies
- Must have exceptional hygiene and grooming habits.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED TO PERFORM JOB DUTIES:
- High School diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred
- Strong problem solving and communication skills.
- Exceptional time management skills.
- Willingness to comply with all food safety procedures.
