Position Description
We are currently seeking a dynamic and highly organized individual to join Dr. George Church's cutting-edge research laboratory at Harvard Medical School (https://arep.med.harvard.edu/gmc/) as a Lab Operations Manager. Our lab is at the forefront of academic research and startup innovation, focusing on synthetic biology, tissue engineering, and high-throughput in-situ analysis methods with applications in biomedicine, environmental science, and industry.
As the Lab Operations Manager, you will play a crucial role in both administrative and laboratory management infrastructure, providing essential support to Dr. Church and his team in both Genetics and the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering in their groundbreaking work. You will interface with both Dr. Church and the Synthetic Biology Platform Lead at the Wyss Institute in all aspects of managing a robust research laboratory. Our lab's research areas include induced pluripotent stem cells and human tissue engineering, single-cell and in-situ genome and proteome assays and editing, and genome synthesis and recoding in human and microbial cells. Our projects span diverse areas such as organoid development, biocontainment strategies for engineered microbes, personal genomics, gene and cellular therapy delivery methods, and the recreation of ancient organisms.
The ideal candidate must be able to work independently, demonstrate initiative and innovation, and facilitate compliance while maintaining excellent working relationships. Strong communication skills are essential, and the ability to turn federal mandates and requirements into manageable, user-friendly means of compliance is highly desirable.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in biology or a related subject preferred.
- At least three years of lab management experience.
Additional Qualifications and Skills
- Evidence of strong organizational skills, and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- High level of expertise in data analysis and administrative software.
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task, respond quickly to changing priorities, and work with a high degree of independence.
Additional Information
This is a two-year term position from the date of hire, with the possibility of extension, contingent upon work performance and continued funding to support the position.

This is an in-person position based on our campus in Boston.
