Job Summary
Performs basic laboratory procedures under the supervision of Registered Medical Technologist and Technicians. Responsible for the collection of specimens such as blood and urine, performing CLIA waived testing and reporting of results. Laboratory Assistant will be required to travel to other sites off campus to provide phlebotomy services. Age of patients range from newborn to geriatric.
Essential Functions
- Performing receptionist duties including incoming and outgoing phone calls, greeting outpatients, computer data entry, review of patient billing, checking the Lab mailbox as well as phlebotomy duties which include performing venipunctures arterial punctures, collection of blood, urine, and throat specimens in addition to performing CLIA waived testing and reporting results, performing occupational health urine drug screens and reporting results.
- Takes physician orders ensuring completeness of information for proper billing to Medicare and third party payers.
- Uses available tools to determine necessity of testing incorporating ICD9 and CPT codes.
- Works with Laboratory Manager, Business office and Health Information Management to assure all documentation for accuracy of patient Medical Records and Occupational Health records.
- Obtains and handles appropriate specimens for testing such as blood samples and urine and accessioning them promptly to allow for accurate test results in a timely manner ensuring proper treatment.
- Maintains competency of skills necessary to perform current position duties and new techniques.
- Demonstrates and actively promotes an understanding and commitment to the mission of MCH.
- Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations, the MCH Standard of Conduct, Code of Ethics, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior.

Qualifications
- Valid Driver’s License
- High School graduate or the equivalent.
- Training at an approved school for phlebotomy, medical assistant, or nursing assistant required.
- Must be able to demonstrate basic computer skills in a Windows environment.
- Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.
