Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Under direct supervision, performs work of moderate difficulty in all aspects of carpentry and building maintenance through demolishing, constructing, installing, troubleshooting, and performing preventative maintenance to all carpentry related building exteriors, interiors, structures, facades, finishes and fixtures.
- Oversee the in-field day-to-day tasks delegated or assigned by the department supervisor or manager.
- Provides detailed reports to supervisors as needed.
- Researches products, provides, material lists price estimates, obtain supplies for projects and tasks.
- Reads and interprets blue prints, drawings, and sketches.
- Provides material lists for projects and tasks.
- Daily coordination of work with end users, subcontractors, and other facilities staff.
- Installs, removes, secures, and repairs windows, glass and all types of window coverings.
- Responsible for all carpentry related tasks during in house remodeling projects.
- Installs and maintains various types of doors, door frames, locks, and door hardware.
- Installs, patches, and finishes drywall and other wall and ceiling systems.
- Installation and repair of commercial flooring systems.
- Participates in snow removal operations.
- Builds and installs structures, cabinetry, tables, workstations, countertops, bookcases and signage.
- Maintains, Installs, assembles, moves office and classroom, furniture, fixtures and equipment.
- Performs masonry and concrete repairs to both interior and exterior surfaces.
- Skilled use of carpentry hand tools and shop machinery.
- Occasionally works with painters and applies paints, stains, coatings including graphics coverings to all types of surfaces.
- May cross train coworkers on various types of equipment, projects and tasks related to field.
- May install, repair, and remove, plumbing fixtures including associated drain and supply lines.
- Occasionally assists Grounds section staff.
- Works with, and occasionally under the direction of college locksmith during locksmith related projects and tasks.
- Required to report to work during emergency conditions and may be assigned to report to college personnel at a different time, location, and to perform duties as necessary.
- Must be able to install a complexity of items of considerable weight loads on various surfaces; work at significant heights.
- Daily creation and completion of work orders and time reports.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Jr. College or apprentice preferred.
- Experience
- Three to five years of experience and education or a combination of Carpentry or Building Maintenance required.
- Minimally proficient in spoken and written English required.
- Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in position duties required.
- Valid Illinois Driver's License required.
- 6 years of experience in Carpentry or Building Maintenance preferred.
- Snow removal experience preferred.
- Commercial construction or remodeling experience preferred.

- This position requires post offer, reasonable suspicion, random, and post-accident alcohol and controlled substance tests at the College's expense for this position.
- Must be able to lift 50+ pounds.
- Must be able to bend, reach, and work on hands and knees if necessary. Position requires extensive walking and the ability to climb stairs, ladders, and work at heights with high personnel lifts and ladders.
- Required uniforms supplied. Uniform appearance must be clean and unaltered. Must wear solid soled shoes.
- Usually good conditions, but could be exposed to harsh weather and long hours in during emergencies.
- Must pass physical exam at College expense.
- This position requires a background check, physical and drug screen.
Pay Grade:
Classified 10 Hourly Factor 120- $26.10
