Lead Culinary Instructor

Our culinary job training program is seeking a Chef Instructor to help train our students in the art of cooking. In this position, you will cover all aspects of cooking, from sanitation to international cuisine, to plating and presentation. You will hold lectures for your students, lead hands-on instruction sessions, and evaluate your students on their performance. Our ideal applicant has a degree in culinary arts and several years of hands-on culinary experience. Effective communication skills and a desire to serve local community a must.

ABOUT HOMES FOR THE HOMELESS, INC.
Homes for the Homeless, Inc. (HFH) is a non-profit social services organization operating family shelters throughout NYC that serve as a hub of opportunity for families both residing in shelters as well as those in the neighboring community. On-site programs range from childcare, early childhood education centers, after-school clubs and programs, and youth recreation activities, such as sports teams, to housing assistance, case management, parenting workshops, career and job vocational training, support groups and substance abuse assistance, and family engagement and recreation events for the whole family.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Work with director to develop curriculum for classes
  • Teach assigned courses following the schedule and curriculum provided
  • Teach and enforce food safety and sanitation principles
  • Enforce attendance, uniform, and hygiene policies
  • Be able to perform cooking demos
  • Supervise students in preparing quality food
  • Evaluate students on their performance
  • Advise your students on their future careers
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Associate degree or equivalent required in the field of culinary arts
  • Several years of hands-on culinary experience
  • Strong communication skills
  • Teaching or employee training experience (preferred)
  • NYC Food Handlers certificate (must obtain within 3 months of start date)
