The Lead, Portable Roll Form Operator Leads Onsite Services for the AEP Span headquartered from our AEP, West Sacramento location. The On-Site Services Program consistent of operating and/or leading the onsite portable roll former on customer/project locations. The optimal split between performing work at a customer/project location is 80% and 20% inhouse and will fluctuate based on the growth of the program.
This position will act as the Onsite Lead and will have oversight responsibilities for the portable roll former and will be responsible to engage in and supervising the production of onsite roll formed product. This role will ensure that the designated employees are operating safely, and that product is manufactured efficiently and accurately within the desired specifications and lead times.
The role will act as a leader and as such emulates BlueScope’s Guide to Business Conduct and models Our Bond and Safety culture. This position will also support CPNA Maintenance tasks as it pertains to the onsite roll former and complimentary equipment as primary role and in other areas as schedule permits.
This position is a working lead position. This position may lead work site and/or lead a specific area depending on the nature of the customer/project location. This position requires the ability to navigate CPNA standards and well as the standard of the customer/project site.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Leads work site team to ensure that safety and productivity goals are met.
- This position is a direct liaison between ASC and the Customer/project representative(s) on the jobsite for addressing communication with customer jobsite leadership which requires the ability to communicate to multiple individuals at various levels effectively.
- Set-up and calibrate equipment and adjust machinery. Troubleshoot potential equipment failures such as hydraulics, electrical and mechanical.
- Responsible for machine set-ups, programming and adjustments to equipment and tooling when necessary to resolve quality, functioning or safety issues. This includes the ability to provide shift hand-off.
- Assists and conducts daily communication meetings “toolbox” / “Onsite pre-shift safety standups” utilizing effective communication techniques; at times will conduct meetings in small groups.
- Maintains equipment as it pertains to the portable roll forming operation systems requires working Knowledge of pneumatic systems, rigging, welding, basic electrical.
- Maintains a clean and organized work area to perform manufacturing functions. Assigns and maintains housekeeping to established visual standards where available or establish visual standards as needed to meet 5’s standards.
- Maintains work procedures and standard practices in production area.
- Observes, maintains, coordinates, and completes standard work.
- Identifies, supports continuous improvement efforts with ability to challenge status quo with Manufacturing Manager.
- Works closely with support staff and support departments Production, Customer Service Departments, Purchasing and pertinent departments to resolve issues as it pertains to the onsite programs.
- Provides feedback, direction, coaching, and resolves basic interpersonal individual and team queries, keeps manager informed and can assess when to escalate.
- Provides training information to employees and contractors, reviews progress/results with onsite teams and others as required.
- Escalates to Manufacturing Manager any problems or concerns with quality, processes, equipment, materials, and labor.
Other Potential Tasks:
- Provides support and backup of plant and CPNA maintenance
- Expand maintenance knowledge, such as some more in-depth classes, training, Preventative Maintenance process, and Lockout tagout (LOTO).
Minimum:
- High school diploma/GED required.
- 3+ years of experience in experience in manufacturing/production environment is required, preferrable roll form experience.
- Previous experience leading teams or demonstrated project management experience with leading groups.
- Maintenance and preventative maintenance experience.
- 1 year of experience operating a forklift, required.
- 1 year of experience operating an overhead crane required.
- Demonstrated experience communicating with broad groups/teams via various communication channels.
Preferred:
- 5+ years of experience in experience in manufacturing/production environment, preferably roll form experience.
- 2+ years leading teams or demonstrated project management experiencing leading collaborative teams.
- Experience with off-loading production material, particularly long length material.
- Knowledge of ASC Profiles products, specifically AEP Span.
- Experience with an ERP system is preferred. SAP experience strongly preferred.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Jobsite operational or project management in construction experience.

Physical Demands
- The physical demands of this position are limited to those found in a normal warehouse/production environment.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly required to stand, walk, lift, carry, use the hands to manipulate objects, bend, look and see.
- The employee is frequently required to push, pull, twist, turn, talk, hear, reach above the shoulder and/or outward, and drive power equipment.
- The employee is occasionally required to stoop, squat, type, kneel, and crouch.
- The employee must routinely lift up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment
- Onsite Portable Roll Former will be required to travel to jobsites and overnight stays for consecutive days.
- Work will be split on various customer service construction sites. When onsite, the work environment is constrained to a standard, unconditioned warehouse and production space.
- While performing the duties of this position, the employee is occasionally exposed to floor hazards, machine hazards, and hazards associated with driving a forklift.
Pay Range:
$28.00-$33.00 per hour depending on experience
Overtime Eligible.
