The Department of Teacher Education is accepting applications for a Special Education Tenure Track faculty position at the Assistant level or a Lecturer beginning Fall of 2023.

Job Duties
Assistant Professor: The successful candidate will teach both undergraduate and graduate courses (face-to-face, blended or online) within the Special Education Program housed in the Teacher Education Department. A candidate should have knowledge and skills to teach a variety of courses within Special Education, but preference will be given to the candidate who has experience working with a range of students, including experience with students who are (a) high incidence (b) neurodivergent or ©utilize assistive technology. Candidates should possess experience and the ability to teach introductory and advanced undergraduate/graduate courses. Candidates should also be able to supervise field experience and practicum placements, effectively advise undergraduate students and pursue research and scholarly activities. Research and scholarship include conducting research relevant to one’s area, publishing in relevant peer- reviewed journals, and presenting at professional conferences in the candidate’s field of expertise. The successful candidate will also provide significant, ongoing service to the department/college/university.

Lecturer: This position will include teaching face-to-face special education classes with some potential online teaching; supervising special education student teaching and practicum experiences; advising undergraduate special education students; and collaborating with K-12 schools. Other duties include serving on departmental, college, and university committees; and contributing meaningfully to departmental, college, campus and university-wide areas of service.

Required Qualifications
Assistant Professor: Must have an earned doctorate with an emphasis in an area of special education or a related field, though ABD status may be considered. Qualified candidates with an ABD status will be considered when an expected date of completion can be provided and are within 9 months of starting date. Must hold, or have held, a valid United States teaching license/certification and have a minimum of three years of successful P-12 teaching in a Special Education position. Must provide plan/evidence of scholarly productivity and provide plans/evidence to remain up to date on policy and practice related special education, and educator preparation programs. Experience with and commitment to working with diverse student populations; use of instructional technology, and good organization and time management skills are required.

Lecturer: Must have a master’s degree in Education or related field; have a minimum of three years of successful special education teaching experience in the United States. Must have, or have held, teacher certification in Special Education.

Preferred Qualifications
Assistant Professor: Preferred qualifications include experience/expertise in multiple aspects of Special Education with preference given to those with a background working with a range of students, including experience with (a) students who are categorized as high incidence, (b) students who are identified with some neurodivergence and/or © expertise in assistive technology. Desirable candidates have experiences and skills regarding field supervision, graduate-level teaching, online teaching, accreditation, evidence of distinguished teaching, and /or external grant writing experience. Efficiency in learning management systems, like Canvas, is preferable.

Lecturer: Relevant and successful university teaching, and skilled in distance learning and online course delivery methods, such as Canvas. Experience/expertise with any of the following: Special Education, classroom management/assessment, field supervision, collaborative/cooperative learning, interdisciplinary teaching, service and/or research, and evidence of positive impact on student learning.
