Required Abilities, Qualifications and Experience:
  • extensive academic training, professional preparation, and qualifications in teaching in all areas of this assignment
  • knowledge of, and demonstrated application of the Ministry of Education’s current philosophy, teaching practices, and evaluation/assessment/reporting procedures as applied to this assignment
  • MEd in Teacher-Librarianship, MLIS or Diploma in Teacher-Librarianship and successful experience as a Teacher-Librarian
  • evidence of personal initiative and strong work ethic with a proven ability to work collaboratively as an effective team member.
  • experience and/or willingness to learn the skills necessary to plan, implement, and oversee the development of a school wide program for Media & Technology, Maker Space and STEM in our school library.
  • commitment and willingness to work collaboratively with staff, parents, and administration to support all students through an RTI system and student-centered model.
  • demonstrated ability and experience in collaborating with teachers to improve instructional practice using the Comprehensive Literacy Framework.
  • familiarity with current literacy strategies, and methods of assessment to guide and improve instruction.
  • ability to manage a resource collection using curricular and student interests and diversity to identify and obtain library materials, organize, and maintain the library collection to promote independent reading and lifelong learning.
  • open to maintaining the library as a hub of learning before and after school and at recess and lunch, and using student library helpers to do so
  • using collaboration skills to support classroom teachers in fostering independent learners by teaching research, information literacy, technology, communication, and critical thinking skills.
  • demonstrated strong interest in, knowledge and understanding of literature and be able to share a passion for books and learning with students
  • demonstrated excellent listening, speaking, presentation and writing skills.
  • successful experience teaching K to 5 and strong understanding of best teaching practices at the elementary level
  • willingness to consider strategies to set goals and celebrate reading.
  • knowledge of and demonstrated ability in addressing the wide range of academic, social, emotional, and behavioral needs of children.
  • demonstrated ability and proven experience of excellent classroom management.
  • knowledge of and commitment to support PBS and school-wide initiatives.
  • thorough knowledge of and demonstrated application of the principles of learning.
  • commitment to becoming involved and positively contributing to the culture of the school.
  • ability to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills with students, staff, and parents.
