Our instructional faculty, of which the Library Facilitator is a member, has a strong and demonstrated commitment to research and implementing systems and initiatives to encourage reading that is deep and wide across the community.

Goal of the MIS Media Center/Library: To offer an organized and up-to-date resource collection that offers every stakeholder an accessible mirror to see themselves reflected in media and a window through which to see and value others not like themselves. The media center will encourage and support a lifelong love of reading along with a commitment to research best practices.

Job functions include but are not limited to:

Library Space

  • Maintain an organized, usable, flexible, and systems-based library space that is user-friendly based on the developmental stages and readiness of its stakeholders.
  • Display clear, visually appealing signage to communicate systems. Model and support students in executive functioning and organizational habits as they pertain to library use and encourage their participation in library maintenance..
  • Shelve returned/misplaced books in a consistent and timely manner.
  • Create/rotate visual displays that draw student interest and support curriculum or current events
  • Collaborate with facilities coordinator as needed when the library is in use for special events.
  • Establish and maintain positive and supportive relationships with students. Show appropriate and sincere affection to each student in the class, and incorporate social-emotional learning opportunities when appropriate.
  • Set clear guidelines and expectations for appropriate library use. Host classroom lessons to orient students to these expectations, and use clear, appealing visuals to reinforce expectations. Follow through with the Code of Conduct procedures outlined in the Family Handbook with both consistency and empathy.
  • Volunteers can be utilized to help maintain the library space and systems. However, volunteers are not responsible for making sure expectations are met. They can be a support to the library manager, but not a replacement for his/her/their job function. If volunteers are used, the library manager is responsible for planning and providing training before service begins.

Library Function

  • Help students and teachers find reading materials that support curriculum and student interests
  • Stay up-to-date on current trends and resources in order to develop and maintain resources appropriate to the school’s curriculum and interests of the students. Audit catalog annually to maintain a collection appropriate to school goals. Submit requests for new acquisitions to the instructional coordinator monthly based on circulation data, student interests, and recent publications.
  • Stay current in professional best practices for school libraries and media centers.
  • Maintain and circulate materials through the school’s online database (ATRIUM).
  • Manage user accounts to online library subscriptions (ATRIUM, Overdrive, etc)
  • Collaborate with the Instructional Coordinator to support the development of summer reading books and other instructional programming. Collaborate with classroom teachers as a partner in the instructional process.
  • Communicate with families, when a book is overdue or needs to be replaced due to damage incurred in a students’ care. Copy principal on these communications.
  • Maintain data on library/resource use and circulation patterns. Be prepared to share data and interpretation with the administrative team to help inform budgeting and purchasing decisions.

Library Services

  • Maintain and communicate consistent library/media center hours so that students and teachers have access to check out and return books
  • Coordinate and establish networks with bookstores, authors, and other libraries
  • Host events 2-3 times per year that foster a love of reading, encourage lifelong learning, and/or support the development of research skills (author visits, book fairs, guest speakers, etc.)
  • Plan and host training for teachers and classroom lessons (separately) on the following topics:
  • Book and resource organization system
  • Online catalog, book search functions, book check-out, and return systems
  • Guidelines and expectations for appropriate library use and how to reserve the space and/or your services
  • Usage of digital collections (overdrive, galileo databases, etc)

Job Types: Part-time, Contract

Pay: $40.00 - $50.00 per hour
