Job summary:

Outreach Coordinator is an entry-level library professional that supervises students as part of a team with other library staff to ensure a welcoming, inclusive, student-centered learning environment. This position provides academic research assistance, contributes reader’s advisory, creates library displays, raises awareness of new resources such as books and electronic databases, and circulates materials at the library’s circulation desk, along with other assigned duties, as a member of the library team. This position reports to the Library Director.

The ideal candidate will promote a friendly and positive environment, and be passionate about providing library services and resources to adolescents. Previous experience within a high school or college library setting is preferred.

This is a Monday-Friday position that is responsible for the evening closing of the library. This position follows the Academic Year, with school breaks, and summer recess off.

Major Responsibilities and Activities:

· Supervises students as part of a team of other library staff to ensure a warm, welcoming, inclusive, student-centered learning environment.

· Circulates materials to students, staff, and faculty.

· Assists students with scholarly academic research for research-intensive assignments.

· Initiates and assists with developing library displays and programming.

· Coordinates appropriate library outreach via social media (i.e. Instagram).

· Contributes to collection development in fiction and non-fiction materials.

· Assists with weeding of outdated collections.

· Promotes research guides and learning materials for students and faculty.

· Collects database usage statistics for the Library Director.

· Maintains positive, inclusive and collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, and students to promote library resources and support research.

· Keeps up to date with current trends in librarianship by reading professional literature in the field, participating in professional development via Academy trainings and engaging in online learning opportunities (i.e. MOOC's, webinars, etc.).

· Provides backup support for filling interlibrary loan requests.

· Shelves library books.

Other Responsibilities May Include:

· Assists with processing of new materials.

· Oversees tracking and reclamation of student overdue library materials.

· Other projects as assigned.

Required Skills and Abilities:

· Team Player – Energetic and proactive approach to cultivating and maintaining effective working relationships. Positive attitude displayed within the team and to patrons. Supportive of team members in accomplishing the mission of the Academy.

· Experience conducting scholarly academic research, using citation software, and preparing subject guides.

· Experience conducting outreach within a social media environment.

· Ability to identify, analyze, and resolve problems effectively.

· Classroom management skills and good judgment regarding what is appropriate for high school students.

· Knowledge of best practices surrounding various learning styles and preferences.

· Excellent written and oral communication skills.

· Strong organizational skills.

· Familiarity with professional trends and issues in academic librarianship.

· Proficiency with Google, Outlook and Microsoft Office suite of products.

· Familiarity with technology tools appropriate for high school library use.

· Ability to solve first-level hardware and software problems, and ability to communicate with faculty and IT in a timely and efficient manner.

Education/Experience:

Bachelor’s degree plus a minimum of one year of experience, preferably within a high school or college library setting.
