Licensed Counselor / Social Worker Cadet Counseling Center Job at New Mexico Military Institute
About New Mexico Military Institute: NMMI is a state-supported, co-educational college preparatory high school and junior college, complete with Junior and Senior ROTC programs. With a Corps of Cadets numbering up to 1000 young men and women, NMMI provides an accredited college preparatory curriculum for high school cadets.
Position: The Cadet Counselor (CC) provides support to cadets identified as needing/seeking emotional, social or behavioral support through evaluation, and providing therapeutic interventions to improve overall wellness and quality of life. The CC serves as a direct report to the Clinical Supervisor in coordination with the Commandant of Cadets and is responsible for the day-to-day therapeutic service provided by the Cadet Counseling Center. The CC works with a team to identify and build resiliency factors for at-risk cadets. Contributing to staff trainings and Corps-wide Self-Awareness initiatives is essential. The CC receives clinical supervision and guidance weekly and as needed. This is a full-time, 10-month position.
Responsibilities:
· Demonstrate appropriate therapeutic skills in working with individual cadets (and groups) between the ages of 14-22 in direct therapeutic services
· Assist in the collection of evaluation data (i.e. observation, interview, informed assessment) to assist the multidisciplinary team in identifying individual needs and appropriate services
· Provide direct or indirect service to cadets in collaboration with Clinical Supervisor
· Collaborate with Cadet Counseling Center staff to provide ethical and professional cadet-centered care to promote dignity and respect
· Contribute to the creation of content, delivery, assessment and data analysis of Corps-wide self-awareness initiatives to support the development of cadets
· Respond, assess, make recommendations on crisis situations
Essential Skills:
· Technical knowledge in psychology, human development and sociology to be able to assess their cadets’ emotional health status and develop treatment plans according to best practices
· Interpersonal skills--must be able to speak clearly and concisely about cadets' emotions, life events and resources
· Respond, administer, refer from Crisis Intervention Assessment
· Critical thinking
· Facilitating Self-Awareness Trainings as prevention initiative
Qualifications:
Required:
· A master’s degree in social work/counseling with NM licensure
· A minimum of five years of experience teaching, instructing, or counseling youth/adults ages 14 – 22
· Cultural Awareness in practice and communication
· Military/military school experience preferred
