Machinist Assistant Job at Professional Aircraft Accessories
POSITION SUMMARY
This position is intended to be an entry level role for learning the machinist skills, knowledge, and abilities with expected progression to machinist. The machinist assistant is responsible for supporting the Machine Shop processes to produce machined aircraft/aerospace parts and components, which conform to design configuration and specifications. The machinist assistant performs component measurements and machine set up and operates manual lathes, mills and/or CNC machines under the guidance of a machinist. The machinist assistant maintains quality and safety standards, keeps records, and maintains equipment and supplies.

Essential Functions Statement(s)
Complete cut sheets for bushing preparation.
Measure all bushings using various precision measuring equipment such as inner- and outer- diameter micrometers, calipers, and more.
Organize shop materials, tools, and maintain 5S compliance.
Learn to select, align, and secure specified holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, grinders, sanders, drill presses, computerized engraving machines, and riveting machines.
With supervision, learn to calculate and set controls to regulate specified machining factors such as speed, feed, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input or edit computerized machine control media.
Utilize ISO compliant documentation and/or processes to determine dimensions and tolerance of finished workpiece, sequence of operations and setup requirements.
Verify conformance of finished first article workpiece to specifications and conducts subsequent inspection of workpiece in accordance to the machine shop's statistical process control (SPC) inspection system.
Verify dimension and alignment of assembly; fits and assembles parts into complete assembly.
Approve setup, move material and ensure that machines are in a safe, clean and orderly manner.

SKILLS & ABILITIES
Education:
High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED): Required
Associate's Degree (two year college or technical school): Preferred
Associate's Degree (two year college or technical school): Preferred
Experience:
Familiarity with tooling and measuring techniques/equipment.
Computer Skills:
General computer skills including basic Microsoft Excel and Outlook skills preferred.
Other Requirements:
Machinists must be able to calculate speeds and feeds for various materials.
Understanding of EHS requirements and workplace safety is required.
