Title: 7.14 Maintenance/ Grounds Specialist Level III

Reports to: Director of Maintenance

Rate of pay $21.60 - $24.55 based on experience

Job Objectives: Perform grounds and maintenance duties which relate to the school plant, school buildings, facilities, equipment and grounds. Accept the responsibility for the care, condition, appearance, repair or replacement of physical equipment, buildings, facilities and grounds as assigned.

Essential Functions:

1. Takes the initiative to perform tasks independently.

2. Upholds board policies and follows administrative procedures.

3. Promotes a favorable image of the school district. Supports community partnerships that enhance district programs and services.

4. Maintains and services all heating and cooling plants.

5. Makes recommendations to the Director of Maintenance for purchase of necessary parts for repairs.

6. Repair equipment and make building repairs as needed.

7. Conduce periodic inspections of the buildings to determine areas of needed repair.

8. Avoids disrupting building activities, except during emergencies.

9. Follows and assists in the promotion of approved safety procedures. Participates in safety training as directed. Complies with safety regulations and environmental laws.

10. Establish inventory procedures for supplies, materials and equipment as assigned.

11. Assist in the development and operation of maintenance records.

12. Serve as a source of information on areas involving buildings and grounds.

13. Performs grounds keeping duties as assigned by the Director of Maintenance.

14. Removes snow, ice, and debris as directed and serves as a member of the district snow removal crew.

15. Picks up and delivers equipment, materials and other supplies as directed.

16. Inspects safety equipment (e.g. emergency lights, alarm systems, ground fault protectors, etc.) as directed.

17. Acts responsibly to protect district equipment and property. Take appropriate action during adverse weather conditions.

18. Understands and uses district crisis plan protocol to respond to emergencies.

19. Respects personal privacy. Maintains the confidentiality of privileged information.

20. Participates in staff meetings and professional growth opportunities as directed.

21. Accepts responsibility for decisions and conduct.

22. Wears appropriate work attire and maintains a neat appearance.

23. Completes paperwork as required by the Director of Maintenance.

24. Conduct other duties related to the Maintenance/Grounds Specialist position as assigned by the Director of Maintenance.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School diploma

Valid drivers’ license with good diving record

Documentation of a clear criminal record with evidence from BCI and FBI

Self-directed and able to learn quickly

Ability to cooperate with others

Demonstrates leadership ability.

At least five years of experience in maintenance operations of physical plant and facilities or possess a license in one of the following trades: Electrical, Refrigeration,HVAC or Carpentry.

Demonstrates technical knowledge regarding maintenance of school buildings and facilities including energy management systems.

Demonstrates proficiency in computer technology.

Demonstrates leadership ability

Possess and maintain Building Operators Certificate or obtain certificate within 24 months of employment.

Professional tact, diplomacy and presentation

Conscientious and assumes responsibility for own work performance.

Good health, high moral character and good attendance record.

Demonstrate enthusiasm and a sincere desire to aid all students

Performs activities with limited supervision.

Effectively uses verbal, non-verbal, writing and listening skills.

Completes paperwork accurately. Verifies and correctly enters data.

Must possess desire and follow through with expanding knowledge of physical plant and facilities by partaking in on the job training, college classes or workshops.

Additional Working Conditions:
Duties may entail occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue.
Duties may require balancing, bending, crouching, kneeling, climbing, reaching, standing and working at various heights.
Duties may require occasional interaction among unruly children.
Duties may require the ability to lift and carry up to forty (40) pounds.
Duties may require operating a motor vehicle, power-driven equipment
Potential for exposure to adverse weather conditions and temperature extremes.
Duties may require working extended hours and working under time constraints to meet deadlines.
Duties may require traveling to meetings and work assignments
Potential for exposure to air-borne particulates, chemical irritants, combustible materials, electrical hazards, equipment vibrations, noises, odors and wet floors.

Supervisory Responsibility:

Under the direction of the Director of Maintenance: Provides instructions and Communicates expectations to assigned staff, temporary employees, and trainees. Assumes responsibility for helping staff successfully accomplish delegated duties.

The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District.
