Administrative position responsible for overseeing the Support Services Division of Emergency Communications. Deals heavily with employee development and retention. Oversees pre-employment procedures for the department. Performs other duties as assigned.
Management of Support Services Staff
Oversee training staff; monitoring, coordinating, and directing training needs for all department members
Oversee quality assurance/improvement staff; ensure consistency in reviewed phone calls and radio incidents and tracking performance trends to identify training needs
Oversee specials projects and records management staff; ensure all KORA regulations are adhered to and all projects are completed in a timely manner
Provide the link between the Support Services and Operation divisions within Emergency Communications
Employee Development and Retention
Oversee the recruitment and hiring process for the department, forecasting staffing needs and coordinating hiring efforts to address deficiencies
Coordinating employee development through employee workshops, career path development, and mentoring
Job Knowledge
Knows and understands departmental and County policies
Technical knowledge of phone, radio, alarms, CAD, and recording system
React and manage emergency equipment failure
Knowledge of critical event notification requirements
Maintain updated departmental policies and procedures
Maintain minimum training hours as required
Consistently apply practices during the pre-employment phase
Knowledge of Kansas Open Records Act
Knowledge of Next Generation 9-1-1
Knowledge of Kansas 911 Coordinating Council Training Standards
Competency in public speaking and presentation skills
Serve in the role of Deputy Director or Director as needed in their absence to represent the department
Misc. Duties/Projects
Schedules observations, conduct tours of the Communications Center, oversees public education efforts
Oversees recruitment activities
Manages various records
Other tasks and projects as assigned
Performs on-call duties on a rotating basis
Minimum Qualifications
One year of experience supervising emergency services staff, two years of experience in training emergency services staff, or any equivalent experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. NCIC certification, CPR certification, and IAED Certification.

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
