PENINSULA COLLEGE’S COMMITMENT TO EQUITYOur collaboratively developed shared definition of equity is that as a College “we aspire to ensure that all students, faculty, and staff have access to resources and support in proportion to their needs and that they feel respected, connected, and can thrive in their goals.” Peninsula College’s equity efforts are led by an Equity Standing Committee with cross-campus representation. THE COLLEGE

Located in the northwest corner of the United States, Peninsula College is nestled in the foothills of the Olympic Mountains. The main campus in Port Angeles, Washington, overlooks the Strait of Juan de Fuca and the nearby city of Victoria, British Columbia, and has easy access to the Pacific Ocean, Olympic National Park, and Seattle. Port Angeles is two hours from Seattle and a one-hour ferry ride to Victoria, Canada. The College is honored to serve six sovereign American Indian nations in the region: Jamestown S’Klallam, Lower Elwha Klallam, Quileute, Makah, Hoh, and Port Gamble S’Klallam.

The College is honored to have strong relationships with these six federally recognized Tribes in the College’s service district. The College is home to Longhouse of Learning, Peninsula College Longhouse. It is the first Longhouse in the nation to be built on a community College campus. The College offers transferable Indigenous language courses in Klallam/S’Klallam, Makah and Quileute and Hoh languages. Instructional programs include a Tribal Homeland Security & Emergency Management certificate and an Integrated Indigenous Studies transfer pathway. The College is committed to doing more and taking future direction from the Tribes.

THE POSITION

Provides planning and management of programs and services for Services for Students with Disabilities. Includes: responsible for determining appropriate accommodations; management of implementing accommodations and assistive technologies; management of information and communication related to SSD; program management.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Manage implementation of accommodations.
  • Conduct in-depth intake interviews with prospective, new and currently enrolled students requesting accommodations for a disability, provide orientation, and referrals and on-going case management.
  • Evaluate medical documents related to student’s disability.
  • Communicate directly with students.
  • Maintain SSD website and publications so they are compliant with OCR guidelines.
  • Communication and collaboration with community and campus partners about SSD services and

programing.

  • Collaborate with high school partners to ensure clear path between high school accommodations services and college services.
  • Collaborate with instructional faculty, faculty advisors, and administrators to deliver comprehensive services to students with disabilities.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff on matters related to accessible technology and UDL.
  • Assist campus partners on matters related to access and accommodations.
  • Research, implement, and train students, faculty, and staff on assistive technology use.
  • Promote disability awareness on campus.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws, policies, and professional standards related to accommodations.
  • Stays current with industry trends and accessibility standards to ensure accommodations are current and effective.
  • Serve on college committees and represent Peninsula College’s SSD programs at local, regional, state, and national conferences, meetings and councils.
  • Manage proctored exam processes, including working with students, faculty, and testing center staff to implement accommodated testing.
  • Identify, hire, and schedule accommodation support personnel, including sign language interpreters and student note takes/scribes.
  • Create, maintain, and review student files and assist with preparation of local and state reports utilizing a student database system and Excel.
  • Budget Management
  • Develop and track budgets designated for accommodations and services.
  • SSD accounts
  • Tracking expenses
  • Ordering student supplies and technology for accommodations
  • DAP report for the state
  • Supervision of staff
  • Assignment of workload and tasks related to SSD accommodations.
  • Timesheets
  • Vacation approval
  • Provide oversight and direction related to SSD accommodations.
  • Student Development Support
  • Assist with the development of student programs, materials/resources, and events and ensure the department is using an equity framework for assessment, evaluation, and processes.
  • Promote and enhance a data-informed practice under a continuous improvement model for the department, including but not limited to tracking and providing data related to students with disabilities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Other Work Activities:

  • Participation in workgroups and committees.
  • Regularly integrate learning from professional development, including participation in the State Board Disability Support Services Council.
  • Develops and distributes staff training materials to faculty intended to increase appreciation and awareness of the process to accommodate students with disabilities according to the ADA laws.

Duties of the position require knowledge and experience:

  • Ability to communicate well with diverse populations, students, faculty, and staff in order to develop and maintain positive and collaborative working relationships.
  • Ability to work well in stressful, difficult, or sensitive situations in ways that reduce conflict with student, faculty, and staff.
  • Detail oriented and analytical.
  • Familiar with medical and psychological testing and interpreting results.
  • Working knowledge of Sections 504 and 508 of Rehabilitation Act, ADA, ADAAA, other applicable laws, statutes, and litigation pertaining to disability services in higher education.
  • Experience working with students with disabilities.
  • Experience with educational/career planning in higher education.
  • Experience and knowledge of assistive technologies.
  • Budget management-detail oriented, Excel, FMS (or similar)
  • Supervision of staff-supervision experience, communication skills.
  • Ability to successfully collaborate with faculty, staff, community members, and students as part of an effective student development team.
  • Evidence of strong organizational, interpersonal, problem-solving skills; demonstrated ability to take initiative.
  • Computer proficiency in Word, Excel and database systems.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, are essential.

Duties of the position require the ability to:

  • Use Outlook, Excel, Word, databases, Form Stack, web page editing, and other office tools.

Required physical abilities:

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to read or scribe exams.

Required work schedule and work environment:

  • Typical schedule is 8-5, Monday-Friday. Some weekends as required.

Required education or certificates:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Masters preferred.
  • Preferred focus on education, special education, psychology, or other related field

EMPLOYMENT PAY AND BENEFITS INFORMATION

  • Full-Time Exempt position.
  • Anticipated starting monthly salary: $4,833.00 - $5,250.00
  • Annual exempt salary range: $58,000 - $63,000

Full Time Employee Benefits:

Peninsula College contributes $1,130 per month towards the cost of the Washington State employee insurance programs. The college also supports professional development.

  • Full-time employees are eligible to apply and participate in the Peninsula College Employee Tuition Program.
  • Sick leave accrual is 16 hours per month.
  • Vacation Leave accrual is 9.33 hours per month.
