Job Description
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Location
- This position can be based out of our Clear Lake/Houston, TX office or our Charlotte, NC office.
Project-Related Responsibilities
- Assist in the implementation analytics software tools and developing standards process improvement. Examples:
- Organize data streams (tags) using Pi Asset Framework.
- Utilize data from LIMS and other systems with process data
- Use Pi Analytics to perform calculations from process data
- Configure Pi Event Frames to capture and analyze data from both batch & continuous processes
- Develop Pi Vision dashboards and process flow schematics
- Configure SPC and SQC charts and dashboards
- Utilize machine-learning algorithms to find hidden correlations and predict future results.
- Configure automatic datasets using RDBMS technologies with SQL
- Execute the project scope for assigned plant sites or production areas. This includes:
- Analyzing the production process to identify critical aspects and opportunities for improvement.
- Designing a software configuration that helps the operations team to better monitor the process.
- Developing plans for training and change management.
- Create and manage existing documentation around standards, how-to-guides, etc
- Develop the project business case:
- Identify opportunities for improvement and potential solutions.
- Estimate, measure, and track all potential financial benefits & ROI.
- Supplement site improvement goals by being a “2nd set of eyes” across a wide variety of chemical processes.
- Continually evaluate and improve effectiveness of current analytical methods and dashboards.
- Identify and recommend additional improvement opportunities including creating additional analytical methods, recipe changes, DCS logic modification, procedure modifications, etc.
- Facilitate frequent progress review meetings with sites
- Discuss any recent process upsets or quality incidents,
- Update status on project goals and objectives, action items, and change management strategy.
- Review Actionboard interactions and acceptance
- Supervise the configuration work performed by the integration contractor.
- Conduct training of plant site staff including training on the software tools and using the tools for process improvement.
- Commission the software tools at the plant site.
- Lead the site operations teams through a first set of improvement projects using the DMAIC data-driven strategy and other Six Sigma improvement techniques.
- Execute the change management strategy to ensure the improvements are sustainable at each site.
- Tools and training to allow the operator teams to run and troubleshoot daily production, while site leaders and engineers work on continuous improvement.
- Develop communication material to share success stories across sites
- Assist site engineers with the creation of supporting documentation such as chemical process troubleshooting guides, flow charts, decision trees, and standard operating procedures
Other Responsibilities
- Assist with developing and delivering Process Optimization Academies that provide in depth training on data analytics, statistics, machine learning, and process optimization and improvement methods.
- Participate in the Manufacturing Data Analytics Community of Practice with members from all sites.
- Support the growth and development of future innovation opportunities around Industry 4.0 and data analytics including integration with SAP, robotics, drones, advanced automation, digital twins, cloud & edge technologies, etc
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
- 5 or more years relevant experience
- BS degree in engineering
- Experience in Chemical Manufacturing, Oil & Gas, Refining, or Petrochemical industries
- Previous manufacturing experience either as an Operations Engineer, Production Engineer, Process Technology Engineer, Maintenance Engineer, Process Control Engineer, or similar Manufacturing Engineering role
- Experience applying PI System tools (or equivalent data historian), advanced analytics, and statistical techniques to monitor and improve production processes.
- Experience interacting with and executing process improvements with the shop-floor (Operators)
- Proven record of leveraging technology to lead continuous improvement programs – identifying opportunities, analyzing data, designing solutions, executing tangible improvements in the plant, and sustaining those improvements.
- Experience with tracking KPI for production processes - OEE, MDC, Quality, raw material utilizations, yield, factory costs, and energy utilizations.
- Experience with initiating Process Control & DCS Improvements – such as improvements to Batch Logic, PID Control Loop Tuning, and/or changes to general process control strategies.
- Experience overcoming obstacles involving Change Management – including creating the awareness & desire for change, developing internal knowledge & capabilities, and reinforcing the change including resistance management, preventing backsliding, and reinforcements from leadership
- Proven examples of innovation

- Ability to manage multiple priorities.

- Up to 35% travel to Albemarle’s manufacturing locations around the world.
- Ability to work non-standard hours (evenings/early mornings) to cover work in Asia Pacific time zones, up to 35%.
- Fluency in English
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with multiple Albemarle plant sites and businesses
- Experience working in different cultures or countries
- Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt
- Along with Fluency in English, Fluency in Spanish or Chinese
- Experience with OSIsoft PI Asset Framework, PI Analytics, PI Vision, Event Frames
- Experience with Northwest Analytics Quality Analyst & Focus EMI Software
- Experience with Sartorius SIMCA Multivariate Software
