Position: Marina Operations Manager
Location: Lake Accotink Park
Status: E (Part-Time, benefits eligible maximum 1560 hoursper year)
Hours: average of 30 hours per week. More in summer less in fall winter. Hours/shifts include weekends, holidays, evenings, and mornings.
Salary: $19-$23 per hour
Description:
Manage public revenue-generating facilities that operate seasonally. Facilities include an antique carousel, miniature golf course, picnic and birthday party areas, and a marina offering boat rentals, and bike rentals. Hire, train and supervise a team of 8 – 16 part-time workers to operate facilities and supervise recreational use of the lake according to standards.
Work with minimal supervision to ensure the safe and effective operation of the assigned lakefront park. Open the park and its facilities, preparing it for staff and visitors. Close and secure the park and all facilities at the end of each day.
Perform routine maintenance and custodial tasks. Conduct park rounds.
Serve as facility attendant for park Visitors Center. Answer phones, greet patrons, perform administrative work such as updating logs, creating flyers and written materials for use by staff and patrons, maintain and trouble-shoot office equipment, filing and organizing.
Demonstrate thorough knowledge of the park, its facilities, programs and services, in all interactions with patrons and staff.
Stay up-to-date on Park Authority Rules and Regulations, Standard Operating Procedures, state and county laws, and other pertinent guidance.
Ensure quality customer service and cash handing/cash security.
Identify, plan and implement processes and procedures to maximize cost efficiency of facility operations.
Conduct monthly safety drills and regular inspections of facilities, equipment, supplies and work methods.
Identify and report to park management equipment or facilities needing repair. Arrange for replenishment and replacement of supplies as needed.
Make authorized purchases, adhering to county and Park Authority purchasing policies and procedures.
Plan and implement special events, group use, and birthday parties.
Collaborate effectively with programming staff to schedule and provide staff, facilities and equipment use to enhance camp programs, classes, and events.
Create signage, flyers and written materials for use by staff and patrons, ensuring their availability and accuracy throughout the season.
Demonstrate thorough knowledge of the park, its facilities, programs and services, in all interactions with patrons and staff.
Stay up-to-date on Park Authority Rules and Regulations, Standard Operating Procedures, state and county laws, and other pertinent guidance.
Fulfill lead role in responding to emergencies and other difficult or unusual situations in lieu of or in tandem with a seasonal or full time manager.
Complete special projects and tasks as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to an Associate’s degree in parks and recreation, hospitality and tourism, business, or related field, plus 2 years of successful employment in a position of responsibility. High degree of ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Superior skills in interacting with a diverse public representing a broad range of ages, backgrounds, and nationalities. Demonstrated commitment to expanding or improving skills and taking on new responsibilities. CPR/first aid certified or able to obtain certification within 3 weeks of employment. Valid drivers license and excellent driving history. Successful completion of USCG Safe Boating Certification within 3 weeks of employment.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience supervising and training staff or volunteers. Outdoor recreation or water safety background. In addition to fluency in English, ability to converse in Spanish or another language prevalent in the community.
Special Requirements: Must be able to work in conditions ranging from direct sunlight to complete darkness as well as inclement weather ranging from extreme cold to extreme heat. Must be able to walk on uneven terrain and lift upto 40 pounds.
