With $15B of ETF assets globally, Franklin Templeton is looking to expand with a newly created position of ETFs Capital Markets Associate to join the Global ETF group based in San Mateo, CA. The ETF Capital Markets Associate will help manage the relationships with all liquidity providers, including Authorized Participants (APs), market makers, and broker dealers, for both primary and secondary market ETF activities. This individual will also work directly with both internal sales and clients to answer any of their ETF-related questions.
What are the ongoing responsibilities of the ETFs Capital Markets Associate?
Liquidity Provider Relationship Management:
  • Support the success of Franklin US-listed and Canadian-listed ETFs by ensuring the ease of trading and executing on the primary and the secondary market by all participants.
  • Primary market
  • Oversee smooth create and redeem engagement with Franklin ETFs.
  • Facilitate acquisition of seed money and lead market makers.
  • Partner with Portfolio Management and Trading to ensure a smooth process with APs.
  • Secondary market
  • Work with APs and market makers to ensure that the ETF is trading as efficiently as possible in the secondary market. The goal is to reduce total execution cost through tighter spreads, smaller premium/discounts, and increased market depth.
  • Train APs & market makers in all product details to allow them to accurately hedge, value and transact in Franklin LibertyShares ETFs.
  • Closely monitor spreads, quotes and trades.
  • Translate market trading insights and client needs into the new product process in partnership with Products, Sales, Marketing, Portfolio Management, & Model Research.
  • Support sales efforts within the broker dealers (b/d) channel to ensure Franklin ETFs are top of mind for their clients who use ETFs.
  • Utilize constant monitoring of flows, volumes, and market conditions to provide actionable market insights and trade ideas.
Client Execution:
  • Provide customized services to help clients have a positive experience trading, both on their purchases and sales of Franklin ETFs:
  • After deciphering a client’s investment objective, advises trading strategies on the primary or secondary market, leveraging expertise of the product, markets, liquidity, and relationships with brokers/dealers.
  • Provide insights on competing exposure choices and trade-offs.
  • Run pre- and post-trade analytics, focused on cost, liquidity, and order strategy.
  • Articulate product knowledge beyond trading fundamentals with the ability to clearly explain product models, index methodologies, and portfolio management decisions.
What ideal qualifications, skills & experience would help someone to be successful?
  • 2-5 years of ETF capital markets industry experience or related finance industry experience.
  • BA Required, MBA, CFA or advanced degree in related field preferred.
  • Highly motivated, proactive, self-starter and team player.
  • Ability to learn quickly and communicate ETF knowledge. Comfortable delivering ETF knowledge to clients acting as an institutional salesperson.
  • Strong interpersonal and partnering skills to help build and maintain relationships across all major liquidity providers and external industry contacts.
  • Effective relationship management skills and credibility with the investment and distribution teams
  • Strong technical skills and understanding of US market structure.
  • Ability to oversee and coordinate multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to support business development and client retention efforts.
  • Proficient in Bloomberg, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Compensation Range: Along with base compensation, other compensation is offered such as a discretionary bonus, 401k plan, health insurance, and other perks. There are several factors taken into consideration in making compensation decisions including but not limited to location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. At Franklin Templeton, we apply a total reward philosophy where all aspects of compensation and benefits are taken into consideration in determining compensation. The salary, benefits and variable rewards will reflect the seniority of the position and a competitive market rate. We expect the annual salary for this position to range between $75,000 to $117,000, in addition to a competitive bonus.
