    Position Title: EPHS Mathematics Classroom Teacher (for the 23-24 SY and beyond)

    Department: Mathematics

    Reports To: Building Principal

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Other duties may be assigned.


    Planning and Preparation

    Demonstrating knowledge of content and pedagogy: content, structure of the discipline, prerequisite relationships and content-related pedagogy

    Demonstrating knowledge of students: child and adolescent development, the learning process, students' skills, knowledge and language proficiency, students' interests, cultural heritage and special needs

    Setting instructional outcomes: value, sequence, alignment, clarity, balance and suitability for diverse students

    Demonstrating knowledge of resources: for students and classroom use and to extend content knowledge and pedagogy

    Designing coherent instruction: learning activities, instructional materials and resources, instructional groups, lesson and unit structure

    Designing student assessments: congruence with instructional goals, criteria and standards, design of formative assessments and use of planning

    The Classroom Environment

    Creating an environment of respect and rapport: teacher interaction with students and student interaction with other students

    Establishing a culture for learning: importance of the content, expectations for learning and achievement and student pride in work

    Managing classroom procedures: management of instructional groups, transitions, materials and supplies, performance of non-instructional duties and supervision of volunteers and paraprofessionals

    Managing student behavior: expectations, monitoring of student behavior and response to student misbehavior

    Organizing physical space: safety, accessibility and arrangement of furniture and use of physical resources

    Instruction

    Communicating with students: expectations for learning, directions and procedures, explanations of content and use of oral and written language

    Using questioning and discussion techniques: quality of questions, discussion techniques, and student participation

    Engaging students in learning: activities and assignments, grouping of students, instructional materials/resources, structure and pacing

    Using assessment in instruction: assessment criteria, monitoring of student learning, feedback to students, student self-assessment and monitoring of progress

    Demonstrating flexibility and responsiveness: lesson adjustment, response to students and persistence

    Professional Responsibilities

    Reflecting on teaching: accuracy, use in future teaching

    Maintaining accurate records: student completion of assignments, student progress in learning, and non-instructional records

    Communicating with families: information about the instructional program and individual students; engagement of families in the instructional program

    Participating in a professional community: relationships with colleagues, involvement in a culture of professional inquiry, service to the school and participation in school and district projects

    Growing and developing professionally: enhancement of content knowledge and pedagogical skill, receptivity to feedback from colleagues, service to the profession

    Showing professionalism: integrity and ethical conduct, service to students, advocacy, decision making and compliance with school and district regulations

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    Supervises classroom, students and volunteers

    Education and/or Experience:

    Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and highly qualified for the grade/subject to be taught

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

    Professional Educator License (PEL)
    Valid teaching certificate (PEL in Mathematics)

    Language Skills:

    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from school board, administrators, parents, staff and students.


    Reasoning Ability:

    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.


    Other Skills and Abilities:

    Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; skill in oral and written communication. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
