POSITION TITLE: Meat & Seafood Manager
ACCOUNTABLE TO: Assistant Store Director / Store Director
Primary Objective:
To plan for and manage the Meat and Seafood department in a manner that promotes sales and achieves profit margins and labor goals. To contribute to a positive shopping environment for customers and a positive working environment for associates.
Nature and Scope:
Emphasis in this position is on ongoing department planning, execution and evaluation in order to ensure maximum sales and profit opportunities, effective cost control, efficient utilization of labor and strong customer service levels. Primary challenge is consistently meeting or exceeding department profit and labor goals, and ensuring consistent quality of meat and seafood product is produced and displayed. This position is responsible for providing effective training, development and work direction for all department associates and requires the ability to encourage individual and group effort to attain department objectives. This position requires ongoing judgment/decision making, social skills/verbal interaction, reading, writing, math, basic computer skills, moderate to heavy lifting, standing, walking, operation of all meat equipment, and exposure to cold temperatures and wet surfaces. Position functions and work direction may vary according to business needs. Assignments and work direction are provided by the Store Director and Meat & Seafood Director or person in charge.
Essential Position Functions:
1. Assist customers
· Greet customers
· Answer customer questions; provide product sampling and suggestive selling
· Answer department telephone calls promptly
· Assist with product replacement and price checks
· Bring customers to location of item when needed
· Assist with special orders
· Ensure that all Meat & Seafood department associates are following the above standards
2. Develop effective daily/weekly work plan based on weekly sales projections, budgeted labor goals and previous operating results
· Analyze sales and labor projections
· Execute promotions as directed
· Determine work priorities and establish labor schedule and work lists in order to consistently maintain adequate department conditions
· Communicate with the Store Director/Assistant Store Director(s) concerning ongoing department status, including opportunities, successes and planning
· Participate in store department meetings
3. Execute and maintain coordinated, aggressive and merchandizing plans as directed, using creative thinking as required
· Consistently monitor sales of demand and profit items, space allocation, variety, movement and stock levels to properly order, merchandise and meet sales and gross profit goals.
· Collaborate with vendors on space allocation, displays and deal buying, and follow through on product quality and credits as appropriate
· Ensure proper product quality, presentation and rotation
· Assist with department production, stocking and display building Functional Requirements:
4. Supervise Meat & Seafood department associates to ensure efficient labor utilization and effectiveness in meeting department objectives
· Effectively communicate tasks and priorities
· Follow up to ensure proper task completion and adherence to store and department policies and procedures
· Monitor sales per employee hour and payroll and adjust labor to production and work needs
· Ensure that customers receive prompt and friendly service and assistance from all department associates
5. Manage Meat & Seafood department receiving, invoicing, pricing, shrink control and inventory to ensure proper product control and that gross profit goals are met
· Supervise and assist to ensure accuracy and organization of receiving functions
· Process invoices accurately and timely, check credit and transfer slips for accuracy and verify purchase journal against receiving records
· Take and document accurate inventories
· Collaborate with pricing department to ensure department pricing and signage is accurately maintained for all items and systems. Monitor price sensitive items in market
· Ensure proper product handling to control shrink and waste
6. Supervise department safety and sanitation programs
· Ensure all associates are properly trained in equipment use, maintenance, and sanitation standards, proper lifting and all related safety rules and procedures
· Ensure no one under 18 years of age operates hazardous equipment
· Conduct department inspections and maintain safety checklist
· Ensure that all department associates use proper personal protective equipment as required
· Review insurance allocation reports and itemized statements of loss reports
· Know and follow all company food safety practices
· Ensure department compliance with sanitation related issues relative to outside sanitation auditors and public health inspections
7. Perform Meat & Seafood department personnel functions
· Participate in interviews and the hiring process
· Ensure all new employees are properly trained to ensure competence in positions and for possible future development
· Conduct and ensure all probationary and regular performance reviews are completed
· Provide individual and group guidance and encouragement toward department objectives
· Recommend and administer corrective actions as appropriate
· Communicate and work with Store Director as appropriate to above functions
8. Follow all store and department policies and procedures
9. Performs other duties as assigned or delegated
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
FREQUENT: 15% of the work shift or at least ten repetitions per work shift.
OCCASIONAL: Approximately less than 15% of the work shift or fewer than 10 repetitions per work shift.
