Tri County Area Schools is located on the borders of Kent and Newaygo counties and encompasses the panhandle of Montcalm county. Sand Lake, Pierson, and Howard City are the quintessential small towns that are within the Tri County Area Schools district. Tri County Area Schools offers Preschool through 12th-grade, with a population of over 1800 students. The district continues its mission to create educational opportunities for every student. Position: Middle School Guidance Counselor – Full-time

Summary: School counselors are an important part of the educational leadership team and provide valuable assistance to students. The school counselor promotes student success by working with all students in the areas of academic achievement, personal/social development and career development, ensuring today's students become the productive, well-adjusted adults of tomorrow.

Qualifications:

• Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with Guidance Counseling (NT) 6-12 Endorsement

· Must meet NCA, State of MI and NCLB Highly Qualified Teacher Requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Other duties may be assigned.

· Provide effective individual or group counseling assistance in crisis or personal situations

· Monitor student academic performance and progress on a regular recurring basis

· Assist staff with CPS referrals

· Conduct regular classroom presentations to 6th, 7th and 8th graders

· Communicate thoroughly and effectively with the public, students and staff.

· Initiate and maintain communication with stakeholders regarding student performance and behavior

· Plan, organize and prioritize while meeting timelines related to school and state mandates

· Coordinate and facilitate 504s

· Organize and facilitate Educational Development Plans

· Assign balanced homeroom placements for all students yearly

· Organize and facilitate 5th grade orientation annually

· Facilitate administration of national and state assessments

· Assist families in accessing mental health resources

· Facilitate Teacher Assistant Teams

· Assist in Retention Process

· Scheduling classes each year

· Develop and implement behavior intervention plans

PREFERRED

• A minimum of three successful years of classroom experience
• Knowledge of PSAT, MSTEP, and NWEA
• Experience helping students with Career Pathways and Xello
