WE LOVE OUR WORK.:
  • Make policy and procedural decisions on a multitude of issues for HCCTR.
  • Have a detailed, working knowledge of the pari-mutuel and racing rules promulgated by the West Virginia Racing Commission.
  • Interact with WV State Racing Commission on Simulcast and Mutuels issues, including writing commission approved rules for new wagers and assisting said with rule interpretation and implementation.
  • Coordination of state-mandated storage, control and controlled disposal of wagering information from HCCTR.
  • Annual budget presentation and review of formulated, implemented and maximized multi-million dollar HCCTR budgets.
  • Position live race post times competitively to maximize handle on both live racing and simulcast import.
  • Oversee friendly and efficient customer service through frequent guest interaction and employee development.
  • Promotion of successful, cost-effective self-service wagering.
  • Assess pari-mutuel handle, attendance, trends, year to year numbers and productivity to maximize operations.
  • Responsible for minor repairs/maintenance of Tote system daily.
  • Interact with the HBPA and West Virginia Racing Commission regularly.
  • Interface with totalisator and audio-visual vendors to ensure proper standards are maintained.
  • Participate in simulcast contract negotiation process and implementation.
  • Inventory control and optimum utilization of programs and Racing Forms annually.
  • You are required to follow new PPE and safety guidance designed to safeguard you, your fellow team members, and guests. This will include maintaining social distancing, wearing PPE as appropriate for your role and cleaning your workstation as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. One to three years’ experience in the racing industry preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems, involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must qualify for licensure by the West Virginia Racing Commission.
