Spectra Tech is in need of Nuclear Material Handling Operators level 1 in Los Alamos, NM.
Position Summary
While working to achieve objectives, will ensure all activities and operations are performed in a safe and deliberate manner; will maintain required safety, security, and operational training; assure procedural and regulatory compliance; and make safety, security, and quality an integral part of every task; including taking the necessary steps to stop work if continuing the job is unsafe or compromises security.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities (may include, but are not limited to):
Reporting to the Waste Handling Supervisor, this position provides technical assistance in the loading, shipping, and/or storage of solid, liquid, hazardous, radioactive, and/or mixed wastes. Specific duties may include, but are not necessarily limited to, handling drums and/or other waste containers, operating forklifts and/or other mechanical loading/handling equipment, and tracking related documents to assure compliance. Work will be performed in a complex environment involving radiological control and security areas. Work will be performed inside and outside buildings in varying weather conditions. This position requires job-specific/site-specific training.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities):
- Must have an understanding of work hazards, safety practices, and operating configurations
- This position requires a high school diploma and at least 6 months of experience.
- This position may be subject to DOE O 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities. This DOE Order establishes entry-level. requirements to ensure employees in the positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.
- Experience working in a team environment with a strong safety culture
- Some understanding of handling and/or transporting solid, liquid, hazardous, radioactive, and/or mixed wastes
- Ability to understand inspection and/or characterization data on waste containers
- Moderate work experience in a quality-oriented environment requiring a high degree of attention to detail
- May assist in handling proper documentation for solid, liquid, hazardous, radioactive, and/or mixed wastes
- Familiar with applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations relating to the handling of solid, liquid, hazardous, radioactive, and/or mixed wastes
- Familiar with legal requirements and environmental impacts affecting facility operations and administration
- Ability to obtain certification as a forklift and qualified crane operator
- Ability to qualify in the use of personnel protective equipment including air-purifying respirators
