The Nurse Practitioner will work closely with the delegating physician to examine and treat stable chronic diseases and acute episodic illnesses. The Nurse Practitioner performs selected laboratory testing, offers referrals to physicians, writes prescriptions, and performs office procedures within the scope of expertise, protocols, and available equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs physical examinations and medical histories.
  • Orders and interprets laboratory and radiologic exams.
  • Provides health promotion and safety instructions.
  • Manages acute episodic illnesses and stable chronic diseases (not involving prescriptions drugs).
  • Responsible for the complete, legible documentation of all patient encounters that are consistent with state and federal laws.
  • Reviews faxes/correspondence and directs medical assistants on appropriate action.
  • Designs treatment plans for each patient.
  • May establish medical diagnoses for patients that are within their scope of practice.
  • Orders or prescribes legend drugs and medical devices as authorized in accordance with the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners.
  • Referrals to other health care providers as needed.
  • Receives daily task for various patient related issues/concerns.

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in nursing
  • BLS/CPR Certification
  • Must be currently licensed as a registered nurse in the state of TX
  • The NP must have documentation from the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners authorizing advanced nursing practice in a role and specialty appropriate to the patients for this site
  • NP must have a Texas Department of Public Safety Controlled Substances Permit and a DEA certificate

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to lift 10 pounds
  • Able to work both independently and as a member of a team.
