What If Hospitality was founded in 2020 and currently owns and operates The Big Sky Motel (which has been owned by the McCleary family for over 45 years) and The Backporch (small town James beard nominated barbecue restaurant). As the Office Manager & Innkeeper, you will be responsible for overall motel management and guest relationships as well as developing and implementing a companywide finance strategy for both the Big Sky Motel and The Backporch. Your four primary responsibilities are:
1. Ensure that every motel guest’s experience is exactly what they need – clean, welcoming, and accommodating.
2. Maximize motel operating profit with efficient savings and systems that do not compromise quality.
3. Analyze every day financial activities and subsequently provide advice and guidance to upper management on future financial plans.
4. Lastly, you are a member of the leadership squad for What If Hospitality. The squad is a project-based team responsible for the overall success and growth of the company. We bring together different perspectives and different skills to make sure that the business as a whole is as successful as possible.

Core Job Responsibilities
- Guests You are responsible for ensuring every guest experience is simple and memorable. Providing and training employees to offer anticipatory service. This may include providing them with a hair dryer, adding a rollaway bed to a room, offering a late check out, or suggesting a local attraction.
- Making & Review Reservations It is the Innkeeper’s responsibility to make detailed reservations for every guest making sure their guest details, reservation details, and any special needs are accurately captured. Please include as many notes as possible when making reservations. The innkeeper is also responsible for frequent reviews of upcoming reservations ensuring all reservations are accurate and complete.
- Team Leadership Oversee the success of the housekeeping and front desk team by supporting them throughout their shifts, providing positive feedback, and addressing recurring problems with coaching. This includes hiring new team members as necessary.
- Groundskeeping While housekeepers are responsible for cleaning guest rooms, and the front desk team is responsible for the office, the Innkeeper is responsible for every other part of the motel from the parking lot and the alley to the gardens and the signs. It is the Innkeeper’s responsibility to make sure the entire motel is clean and beautiful.
- Laundry Support Naturally, the motel goes through quite a bit of laundry. There are many days when occupancy is high that the innkeeper will need to support the housekeeping team with laundry. The innkeeper is also responsible for washing, drying and folding wash clothes and bathmats and spot treating any trouble stains.
- Motel Maintenance Ensure that these problems are resolved in a timely manner – either fixing them by themselves or by calling in a professional.
- Motel Room Quality Consistently inspect motel rooms for any damage that needs repaired and maintenance that needs done (painting, carpet cleaning, etc.). Address repairs before renting rooms whenever possible.
- Motel Room Upgrades It is the responsibility of the Innkeeper to mindfully replace and upgrade motel rooms while staying within the budget prioritizing the most cost- effective ways to improve guest experiences.
- Inventory Management Track all current inventory of motel supplies and keep all products stocked to ensure motel can continue functioning.
- Operating Budget Create and Manage an operating budget (to be approved annually by owner) which includes the following spending categories: payroll, repairs & maintenance, cleaning supplies, coffee supplies, linens and furnishings, office supplies, utilities, and guest gifts.
- Finance Management Develop, implement, and iterate a financial strategy that maximizes profit using data analysis.
- Payroll & Bookkeping Manage payroll & bookkeeping company wide.
- Leadership Squad Quarterly Projects: Each team member is responsible for brainstorming, planning, executing, and reflecting on passion projects within a quarterly company-wide theme. Weekly group chats: Each week, the leadership team will meet to assess the health of the company, help solve challenges, and discuss passion project progress. Professional Development: The leadership team will constantly evaluate the skills of the team, identify shortcomings, and find ways to close those skill holes through training.
