Job Summary
Join UT Southwestern as an Oncology Nurse Navigator (ONN) supporting breast cancer patients at Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center. As an ONN at UT Southwestern, you will have the opportunity to join a team of the top cancer specialists in the country.
The Navigator works with intake and the clinic nurses to expedite new patient appointments. The navigator assists with coordination of appointments and care throughout the patient's cancer journey. The navigator will assess patient needs using social determinants and make appropriate referrals to support services. The navigator will assess and reinforce knowledge of the patient's disease and treatment plan. Navigation promotes positive, productive communication and understanding among patient, care giver and provider.

Job Duties
Assesses for any barrier to care through the cancer care continuum to address patient, care giver, or family needs.
Serves as point of contact for provider, patient and care giver.
Serves as patient advocate to assist the patient and care giver through the healthcare system.
Facilitates education of patient and staff by developing appropriate education programs, resources and tools to address needs.
Provides education, resources and referrals to internal and external resources based off of assessment need.
Facilitates shared decision making, ensuring the patient, family and care giver are fully informed of treatment intent, treatment and outcomes.
Promote care planning by encouraging patients to convey their wishes and goals of care. Works with patients to formulate questions to discuss with their healthcare provider.
Facilitates clear and concise communication among providers, departments and patient.
Coordinate multidisciplinary planning and facilitate care conferences, as necessary.
Participates in outreach projects to help close patient care gaps.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Experience and Education
Graduate of an approved/accredited nursing program either by a governmental authority, nursing board, or by a licensing authority that has jurisdiction over approval/accreditation of nursing programs (Texas BON 217.1)
A current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC), are required.
Three (3) years oncology nursing experience required.
BSN preferred.
Oncology Nursing Society Certification: OCN, CPHON, CBCN, or BMTCN preferred.
Compliance with the COVID-19 vaccine mandate enforced by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) is a requirement for this position. Federal law requires individuals holding this position to be fully vaccinated or have an approved exemption for certain medical, disability, or religious reasons. Individuals who do not meet CMS vaccination requirements are not eligible and should not apply for this position but are encouraged to apply for other non-healthcare positions at UT Southwestern for which they qualify.
