VulcanForms Inc. seeks an Optical Assembly Manager for our Devens, MA, location.


Job Purpose

As an Optical Assembly Manager at VulcanForms Inc., Devens, MA, you will lead a highly skilled technical team through the process of manufacturing proprietary VulcanForms equipment. This opportunity is a very hands-on job requiring familiarity with lasers, fiber optics, and optical test equipment and stations. The tasks assigned to this role are technically challenging. They will test your attention to detail and precision but allow you to contribute to defining the production milestones and be a crucial part of the VulcanForms team.


Key Accountabilities

  • Research, evaluate, recommend, and implement changes to methods, processes, equipment, materials, and tooling. Coordinate changes with manufacturing, QA, engineering, and other departments.
  • Develop, document, and deliver training to employees on new or changed manufacturing processes, methods, procedures, and Engineering Masters.
  • Troubleshoot, manufacturing processes, machinery, tools, and fixtures.
  • Create fixtures and tools to improve throughput, efficiency, and yields.
  • Generate prints, work orders and other related documentation.
  • Generate Work Instructions and Manufacturing Standard Procedures.
  • Maintain the Document Control Log and coordinate approval process.
  • Create, monitor, maintain and execute projects within the scope of producing novel optical components and/or assemblies.
  • Manage the process of qualifying and assembling fiber laser systems, fiber splicing, and fiber routing.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with high-power fiber optics and laser amplifier assembly methods.
  • Familiarity with optical inspection techniques and equipment such as interferometers, profilometers, laser table set-ups, and autocollimators.
  • Experience with setting up and conducting optical, electrical, temperature, and data logging tests.
  • Familiarity with optical assembly techniques and considerations such as bonding with figure consideration, optical contacting, and opto-mechanical assemblies.
  • Knowledge of optical materials and applications across the wavelength spectrum.
  • Experience working in a cleanroom and familiarity with cleanroom best practices.
  • Experience leading a high-performing team.
  • Process-based industry experience (aerospace, medical, semiconductor).
